    Whiskey Malt?

Alright, so I kegged it yesterday. My main take away is that this malt is okay. It doesn't offer anything special from as far as flavor goes, and the conversion seems to bean issue. It's not terrible, but for the price, you can get more from just about any other base malt. I think I'll just mix...

    Whiskey Malt?

Just wanted to follow up on this. I just finished brewing my second batch with this malt. When it's ready I'll give more input. However, my first batch turned out alright. It was a pale ale with 10lbs of whiskey malt. The malt is a bit underwhelming in this one. I can't tell if it's the malt's...

    Mash Hopping - How Long?

Thanks for the input. I might have to finally break down and get beersmith. Out of the recipe builders i tried only two let me select mash hopping, and niether account for time. As soon as you select mash hopping as the method, it grays out the time slot. I might try to get off early just in...

    Mash Hopping - How Long?

So, I was planning a brew day for this weekend, but started thinking I'd try to squeeze it in on Thursday instead. I have to work Thursday, but thought if I started the mash on my lunch break, I could finish brewing when I get off. However, I was planning to mash hop for this one, and wasn't...

    Session Imperial?

    That's good stuff.

    Session Imperial?

Thank This is kinda what I was thinking too woth the maltiness. And I'm not necessarily thinking 3% or anything. I was mostly just thinking <5%, which might make it easier to get close, but I do think you're right about the ethanol flavor. If all else fails, I'll just make an Imperial IPA...

    Session Imperial?

I've been thinking of something and not sure of it's possible. I've been brewing for a long time now, but I think it's time to start keeping things more on the session side. I'm 40+ now and don't think having big beers on tap are that great for me. I want to make a session IPA with the big...

    Concord block burner?

Yeah! I've brewed twice with it now and worked great. It did leave a char mark on my cement garage floor. I don't care about that though. Decent product though.

    Whiskey Malt?

Yeah, that seems a little weird to me too, but we'll see what happens. Hopefully it's awesome, because I have a lot of it.

    Whiskey Malt?

I finally got my 50lb bag of whiskey malt. I'm hoping to brew up a batch this weekend with it. I got some new hops to try too, so I'm going to brew a simple pale ale recipe. I'll report back with recipe and results.

    Concord block burner?

I kinda like how compact it is.

    Concord block burner?

Does anyone use one of these? It looks like it might be a decent budget burner, but wondered what you all thought.

    Serviceberry

Yeah, it's the same think. It's good. Wish I had like 1 more lb to make it really punch through, but it's good.

English bitter with hops on hand

Alright, I want to brew a bitter, but I want to use up some stuff I have on hand. I've got it down to Sonnett and Adeena, basically because the alpha fits my idea for the recipe. Which one would work best. I think they're both related to English hops, which is another reason these are my two...

    Serviceberry

I took your advice and heated them up a bit, mashed and stirred them. Added them after primary ferment was through. It was a farmhouse ale of sorts. It turned out nice. Like someone said earlier they add a little wine and blueberry type thing. It's good. I might add a little more next time...

    Serviceberry

Thanks for the idea. They're in the freezer right now. Didn't think to make a syrup.

    Whiskey Malt?

My LHBS is getting me a bag on their next bulk grain pallet order. Not sure when that'll be, but I'm excited to mess around with something new.

    Serviceberry

I don't know much about them. Learned about mostly from foraging subs, and reading about edible berries around where I'm at, PNW. They're pretty sweet. Look like Blueberry on a cherry stem. Well, I'll make something and report back

    Serviceberry

No one's brewed with serviceberries? That surprises me.

    Serviceberry

It's fruit season where I'm at, and I recently picked a couple pounds of Serviceberries. I was thinking about throwing them in a beer. Anybody ever use these before? Just thinking making a fruited farmhouse, but would like to hear what anyone else's experiences might have been with these berries.
