    sanitation question

Star San is an acid based sanitizer. It will eat anything if its left long enough, or concentrated enough. Especialyl when it comes to soft metals like aluminum, so paint stands no chance

    Cleaning dirty cans

Is the pressure inside the dishwasher that intense? I feel like i've put really light tupperware containers on the top rack and never had a problem. I have a take a look in my dishwasher again. I know theres a rotating arm above the top rack, and above the bottom rack, but i assume there's...

    Cleaning dirty cans

How would YOU go about cleaning a box of cans that’s been sitting in a garage for 6 months. Just realized a pack of cans has been getting covered in garage dust and junk and whatnot and not quite sure if I should attempt to clean them by putting them in a dishwasher with no cleaner, some other...

    30amp 240volt panel parts

Yeah the design of most panels are so that it keeps all of the high amp parts of the design directly from point A to point B. Most designs have the lower gauge wiring coming into the panel, through an SSR, through a contactor, and then out to the element. The switches turn on and off the...

How long does your brew day take with your electric systems?

120v 3vessel system, so most of my brew day is heating times, but with those longer times, I don’t have to be present, so it’s negligible to me An average ipa brew day from the minute I touch my kettles to the minute I put everything away, is about 7ish hours. -2-2.5hours initial heating of...

    CIP pump suggestions

I’ve also got a 1/8hp cover/pond pump that I use for my CIP setup on my 7gal chronical. As is said above, it’s not going to clean in the valves and nooks and crannies, BUT, for me the idea was exactly what CIP stands for, “clean in place”. It does the bulk of the heavy lifting for cleaning the...

Tan pump... gone through 3 so far....

I’ve got a 12v tan pump on the outlet of my HLT, and a Mark II as my wort pump. Both perform exceptionally well for their duties That being said, in the 2.5 years my brewing system has been running, I’ve replaced the tan pump once at 2 years, and the Mark II is still going. For the price, I...

Heady Topper- Can you clone it?

Brewing this version this coming weekend with Imperial Barbarian. My only concern is the sugar and the low mash temp. This thing has to finish bone dry based on this recipe. What was the final gravity?? Also single dryhop after fermentation is complete?

    Electric setup

If i'm understanding correctly, you could basically have a small box inline of your power supply for your brewing controller, with Input/Output for the 240v high power to the brewing panel, inside the 240 lines are running through a contactor, and then the contactor coil runs to a120v plug out...

    Electric setup

Also another hack i have to reduce time on my total brew day, is filling the kettles the night before, turning the system on and bringing the HLT and Strike water in the MT up to around 185 degrees. Then i turn it off before i head to bed. When i wake up the next morning, i've lost heat, but...

    Electric setup

And for the record, i dont intentionally mean to offend anyone here. I think theres just a lot of "120v is worthless" feelings amongst this forum, and people throw out endless reasons why they believe thats so, but when you break things down to its basics, its just another way to skin the cat...

    Electric setup

Ok 30 minutes might be a stretch. But still, i feel like unless i'm in a professional situation, if an hour is going to make or break my day, why am i taking in a hobby that takes over 4 hours minimum? My longer ramp times are somewhat beneficial, as yes my brew day is longer, but i have...

    Electric setup

Plus my brew days arent ridiculously longer than 240, since most of my heatup time is initial heating. Heating from mash to mashout/sparge only takes about 25 minutes, and then from mashout to boil takes roughly another hour, so what am i adding on my actual brew day compared to 240v? 30...

    Electric setup

1650 watt element in a 10 gallon kettle doing 7 gallon boils on my heavily dryhopped beers. I have no problem boiling. You have to keep the lid on but cracked, but its no problem regarding DMS or anything. The last few degrees from like 208 to 212 take forever, but it gets there

How can I tell if my SSR is going out? And what is a "good" one.

Thanks Doug. Dont know why i never thought about the heatsink. I'll tie a ground off the mounting screw to my grounding bar before my next brew!

How can I tell if my SSR is going out? And what is a "good" one.

This thread made me think............how do you ground an SSR? I'm assuming people mean if they're using a metal enclosure, and the aluminum heatsink is attached to the encloure, then the heatsink is grounded thereby making the SSR grounded? I've got a plastic enclosure, with an aluminum...

    Critique my controller wiring

I opened up the enclosure a few times during the brew just to make sure the SSRs werent melting, and all looked well haha both had a dab of thermal paste on them when i installed, so i'm sure they're well seated.

    Critique my controller wiring

I put a fan blowing over the heatsink and it was ice cold for the rest of the brewing day. I might forgo the fan next time to see how it does, and if i start getting much hotter temps than 120-130degrees at the heatsink, i'll just pop a 120v fan over the top of the heatsink and call it a day

    Flow trouble

If able to use the pump without the CFC attached, but not with, then you have a clog somewhere. I suggest soaking it in a tub of HOT pbw for a few hours, then come back to it and try to pump hot water through it to clear the clog
