    Tutorial for Shipping Beer

I have used usps a few times. I just didn't tell them what was in it. I didn't completely seal off every beer and I should have, because i am not sure how they operate but if it is the way fedex does, a leaky package will be trashed.

    Mystery beer

Nooo I didn't explain my self well enough. I was getting grains for a hop slam clone and around the same time they were crushing grains for a white ipa. In the midst of blabbering about homebrewing, our bags of grain became mixed up. They crushed some new grains for my brew and instead of...

    Quick reference for ingredients

Does anyone know of a book or whatever that has a decent list and description of malts, hops, yeast, etc.? I don't have a computer so I want something that is easy thumb through (tired of squinting at my phone).

    Help with calculations

I pulled these calculations from Designing Great Beers (great read btw) but they don't make any sense. Can some one help me out here? Terminal gravity x 105 = alcohol by weight ABW x 125 = ABV The end results usually gives me a number in the 200s? Thanks

Yeah I guess batch sparging would be the easier route.

    Mystery beer

I commandeered 15 lb of mystery grains (probably grains for an ipa: pale, Vienna, carapils,) and I'm planning on making a basic ipa. I plan on mashing 4.6 gal at 168 deg, based off the 1.25 l to lb to grain, but I'm lost at figuring out how much I need for sparge (still relatively new to AG)...

How do you clean your bottles?

Thanks guys. That's kind of what I figured. As long as the bottles don't smell and there is no crud in the bottom then a good soak in starsan will suffice.

How do you clean your bottles?

I am still bottling (I know) and I am wondering if I really need to clean them before I sanitize. After I use a bottle they are always rinsed out well, so there is never any crud left behind. I alway give a long soak for sanitizing. Starsan recommends cleaning before bottling but I am not sure...

Thinking about involving basil in my next beer...Thoughts? Suggestions?

Yeah it's a strong but volatile herb. I would like to dry hop it but I don't know how to do something like that without getting infection. I like the combo of the orange peel coriander and basil at 5. I think I will stick with that route. I want there to be healthy malt profile with just a...

Thinking about involving basil in my next beer...Thoughts? Suggestions?

I have basil coming out of my ears in the back yard and am really interested in involving some in my next brew this weekend. I have never done a beer with basil so I am not really sure which direction to take it. For starters I think it would work best in a lighter beer like a blonde or...

My Pumpkin beer public service announcement

Last year my brew shop had an excellent pumpkin beer on tap and I decided to recreate it. The recipe called for pumpkin purée out of the can. First go around was an epic failure as it clogged the air lock and blew my glass carboy. Nasty mess in my small apartment. Tried again but was really...

    Secondary or no?

I don't always prefer to rack to secondary, but when I do....I have better beer. No but seriously, I normally do have a much clearer, better looking final product when racking to secondary. On the other hand, I have heard plenty of talk about this being an un welcomed step due to the...

    I screwed up by cold-crashing

New question alert: can someone clarify what cold crashing is? I would imagine its just using your wort chiller to chill the beer to desired temp? Thanks
