    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

I don't divide by 5... I often brew in 2L water bottles or 4L in the demijohn so there is room for the Krausen. I find it easier for the maths to work in litres and grams for more accuracy in smaller sizes. Most recipe sizes usually give gallons so my method is to convert the gallon figures to...

Coopers kit ale grain bill... any guesses as to what ale or recipe it is similar to?

Used SO4 yeast in a 2L water bottle to ferment in. This took a long time to clear but we bottled it today. Looked lovely and clean but the FG was only down to 1.030 from an SG of 1.054. I sipped a drop and it tasted fine. Bottle conditioned in 4 x 330ml bottles with 1.5 of the cafe sugar sachets...

First ever, all grain, with a very, very mini 1L mash

I bought their weeny 15g bags of Amarillo, and Citra for that recipe, then Jarrylo and Saaz out of curiosity. That'll be more than plenty for these tiny 2L brews. Totally suits me to only buy what i need when I'm only using between 3g - 20g at a time. I only hope these guys make a small fortune...

First ever, all grain, with a very, very mini 1L mash

Joy actually. I've just found a supplier on ebay who sells hops by the micro quantity in a tea bag. I'll report back when they come. I have no affinity but they seems to be a legit brewer with time for the micro brewers to even bother doing that small a quantity. Suits me better than having huge...

First ever, all grain, with a very, very mini 1L mash

The three buckets I have are full of Müller T grapes... soon to be evicted though. I've resorted to lots of 2L water bottles instead. Bit fiddly on the evaporation stakes for a long boil but still doing the job so far. I'm sort of glad late harvest time in the country is almost finished because...

First ever, all grain, with a very, very mini 1L mash

I've got +/- 34 demijohns+++ languishing full of slowly maturing country wines.... now i want them empty.... for beers... :)

First ever, all grain, with a very, very mini 1L mash

I just re-looked at the recipe and at the end says he'll help with the hops. So I'm on for the right experiment. I can do both for my own learning.

Oooh yes. I'll have a go at that, but I'll need to buy those sorts of and more ingredients, hops unless I sub in mongrels again. I've now got fuggles and goldings too.

Would like to brew a beer clone like Fursty Ferret. Has anyone tried before?

Not yet but there will be. I think it's reflection. Good advice. Thank you. I hadn't thought of keeping it warm for carbing.

Would like to brew a beer clone like Fursty Ferret. Has anyone tried before?

We did eventually start a Fursty Ferret-alike beer on the 1st Nov. We've just bottled it on the 7th Dec, and it's our first attempt at a 'proper' beer as such. Made in an ordinary kitchen pan put inside another larger one to keep the temps steady. Fermented in a glass wine demijohn in a warmish...

First ever, all grain, with a very, very mini 1L mash

Well, well, well. We tried a porter the other day to see how it was getting on and it was a different beast entirely a month later. Softer and more gentle on the tongue. Coffee and chocolate with a slight tobacco twang. Very smooth, full and drinkable with no jaggy aftertaste at all. Pretty...

    The Gruit Beer Thread

Does ordinary garden uk rosemary bear any resemblance to the wild sort. Forgive me if this has been covered before. I'm such a newb at this. As in I have a lot of the former, but need to make effort to obtain the latter, but will do so if it doesn't.

    What are you drinking now?

Having picked these only once and will never again. You are the first beer hero.

    Gruit experiment of 2 litres

Another mini mash experiment. My friend and I were discussing making some trials of historical beers because yarrow grows freely around here, as does mugwort. She arrived today bearing both herbs so this beer jumped the queue of intended learning beers. I don't have many ingredients yet but...

    Beer bread

I haven't tried these spent grain beer crackers yet but these are next on the cooking trials for reusing spent grains. Luckily I don't make many beers (yet)...

    Beer bread

Aha.... I am now the wiser. Thank you. I will only use it at a low rate like a flavouring in future for breads and stick to the doggo bics for the bulk (sans the hops). Maybe I can slice up and 'melba toast' these odd flat breads into dry crackers if the taste is any good... I have got quite a...

    Beer bread

The first batch of half and half flours was proved overnight. The second addition making the barley content only a quarter, was proved from the morning till the evening. The mistake was to assume the normal 'strong' bread flour could carry the barley flour. The barley flour itself would would...

    Beer bread

Now the failure.... I made dog biscuits last time out of the spent grain and the dog adored them. However this time we had accidentally put the hops in the mash. Luckily I had forgotten the biscuit recipe so looked it up and found that hops are very poisonous to dogs. Good job as I was about to...

First ever, all grain, with a very, very mini 1L mash

I use this and hose it straight from the demijohn. The mesh end stops the grobbleys getting in. The smaller 2L water bottles are easy to pour straight from the bottle through a mesh coffee filter to catch bits. (I have no affiliation with either product)

Picked Müllet Thurgau grapes today, advice welcome

Definitely need mesh bags for fruits and hops. I rarely use the buckets because I prefer to see what's going on but they're very useful with lots of solid matter in the brew. I splashed these far too much because I could barely lift them to pour well. Wine was flying everywhere because the half...
