    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

For micro batching, we regularly use ordinary 2L plastic water bottles filled up to the curve, with their lids left loose instead of an airlock. Not had a problem with them except there being not enough beer when they're very nice.

Fairy liquid not too good in beer!!! Who else has a ruined beer tale to tell?

He's more upset than me. Luckily I found it hilarious. He's going to take us malt shopping tomorrow for some nice new malts and hops.

Fairy liquid not too good in beer!!! Who else has a ruined beer tale to tell?

So, I'm ratting on my husband... I've just spent two hours preparing a lovely one gallon cream of three crops wort as a likely candidate for a competition entry idea.... and he's just watched me change the water in the sink twice to cool it down.... so what happens next? ... He washes up his...

Cream Ale Cream of Three Crops (Cream Ale)

We just tried this last night. My nephew was with us and his delighted face when he swallowed it, said it all. Said with a huge smile, ''Auntie...., I don't mean to be rude by being so surprised, but this is really, really nice beer. If I'd had this in a pub I'd be thrilled.' Then this morning...

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

I'm a kitchen saucepan brewer as yet with hardly any specialist equipment. I brew in 1 gallon glass wine demis. One of the most useful things I ever found was a squeeze to suction syphon with a little wire cage net on the end. The width is exactly right for the top of a demijohn neck. A light...

Would like to brew a beer clone like Fursty Ferret. Has anyone tried before?

Just bottled them both. They were still bubbling a tiny, tiny bit so maybe its a tad early for this particular beer but it doesn't matter. The SG wasn't down enough at 1.020 so the beer will only be 2.36% unless it gets higher in the bottle. This recipe will always be a staple so we'll be making...

Would like to brew a beer clone like Fursty Ferret. Has anyone tried before?

I see comments on beers that others have made, that say they are ready in a week or so. People have brought beers to the club that are only five days old. Mine don't ever seem to be anywhere near that fast. I left my last Golden ale to clear for a month before bottling and then the comments were...

Best advice/method/product for moving from good to great beer

As a really new brewer, the thing I'm learning is that the temperature and its stability really matters a great big deal. With no special equipment except a hydrometer and a thermometer, the rest is kitchen saucepans with plastic water bottles or demijohns to ferment in. I'm finding in a cold UK...

Would like to brew a beer clone like Fursty Ferret. Has anyone tried before?

Been watching these two clones as they ferment as a side by side. Interestingly the 30 min boil, that was made a day later, is clearing faster than the longer boil. Fascinating.

Would like to brew a beer clone like Fursty Ferret. Has anyone tried before?

Thank you and all kind advice taken. I've decided to make another batch tonight doing exactly the same things but with a 30 minute soft boil and half again on the bittering hops. We'll taste what it does to the beer when they're both ready.

Would like to brew a beer clone like Fursty Ferret. Has anyone tried before?

Made this recipe again today. It was a truly lovely home-brew beer last time and hubs is very happy that we can get so close to his favourite beer. We did some side by side testing and it wasn't bad at all for a clone. The colour is perfect. The only difference from that recipe is we didn't have...

Cream Ale Cream of Three Crops (Cream Ale)

Thank you very much for this recipe. I've made a second micro batch of it and will certainly make a slightly bigger batch next time. Maybe also might play with some different hops to see what they add to it. Interesting that it didn't clear so well as the first one I made, so will take more care...

Coopers kit ale grain bill... any guesses as to what ale or recipe it is similar to?

Just posted it in the what are you drinking section but am posting a pic here too. Very pleased with this.

    What are you drinking now?

Own home-brew Coopers/cream of three crops hybrid. The very first own beer recipe and very nice.

    Cloudy still after three weeks

I keep these beers in a box under the stairs with a cloth over them. My hubby likes Fursty Ferrets best and they have extremely easily removable labels so I have a constant supply of the left over clear bottles until I learn to make a beer he prefers. I'll order the jarrylo hops again. They...

    Cloudy still after three weeks

Thank you all. I dry hopped the golden ale but not the other. Both beers smelled and tasted fine. They do look like they're trying to clear in the bottle this morning so maybe just being off the trub is a good thing. The golden ale was using jarrylo bittering hops with some citra + amarillo...

    Cloudy still after three weeks

My recent two batches of beer just refuse to clear and I don't know why. One is a 'golden ale' and the other a 'cream of three crops'. I might not have quizzed this cloudy issue if they were newly tried recipes, but the second beer is identical to one I'd made previously that cleared...

Do you find beer brewing too complex?

I don't have anything complex. Just doubled up kitchen pans for the mash. A bowl in the kitchen sink to cool the wort in. Glass demijohns, a thermometer and a hydrometer. I like the cream of three crops on here for a beginners beer.

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

I've used the fever tree bottles before too for the last bit. Especially when brewing in the 2L water bottles. A gallon is better though because it makes six 500ml bottles not two and a half.

Ancient wild plum banana wine recovered...

I was spring cleaning the very neglected area for warm ferment above the cooker stairs. There were numerous demijohns there and some unspeakable bottles of mystery mould etc etc. You know the sorts of things. Covered in kitchen greasy dust and all the airlocks dried out, so they've been ignored...
