    Poor head retension

Is it common for HLME's to produce beers with poor head retention? My first batch tastes good and is carbed but won't hold head. I added 2.5lbs of corn sugar to the boil. I did not plan on adding it all, I made a mistake.

Must have screwed up the primimg sugar

Sweet, after 4 weeks in the bottle it's worth drinking! Nice head, but it left a bit too quickly. Slight lacing, though I forgot to rinse the glass. It can only get better with more time, but I'm going to start drinking it now. Good bye to buying beer unless I just want to try something new...

    Secondary?

Just re- read what I posted. I didn't steep "with" the LME. I steeped with plain water, let the grain drip dry and the added the LME when it started to boil

    Secondary?

It was partial extract where I steeped the following grains with 8lbs amber LME and 1lb dark LME. 1lb carafoam 1lb crystal 90 1lb 2 row (I know it's a base malt, but the recipe calls for it) I used 2 packs of dry yeast, can't remember exactly what it was. I think it was safale 05. It tastes...

    Secondary?

I've had this in primary for 3 weeks. I planned on bottling yesterday, but it's still very cloudy. It's a Scottish ale. OG 1.08 FG 1.02 stable. I have no way of cold crashing the fermenter, so I'm wondering if I should leave it in primary for 2-3 more weeks at 70* or should I rack to secondary...

    When to brew a RIS

That's what I figured for a minimum. I'll brew 1 or 2 more batches before I commit a fermenter that long. Thanks

    When to brew a RIS

I want to brew an imperial, but I don't know how long it would take to mature. I am new to brewing and want to get a decent pipeline going that would last through an imperial before I start on that big dark beer

Must have screwed up the primimg sugar

Update, I can't help myself so I sampled another beer after 4 more days. While its no where near done I can definitely tell a difference. It tastes better and there is slightly more carb in the bottles. I've learned my lesson...patience, patience, patience I'll be buying more craft beer over...

    2nd brew fermenting

Just took my first gravity reading. OG was .010 higher than the recipe called for, and the SG I took today after 2 weeks in primary is .006 higher than the recipe. The current SG seems pretty good to me considering how high the OG was over the recipe. Tasted the sample and it was pretty darn...

    Floating hop mess

Glad I found this post. I was wondering if/when the gunk would sink. Krausen fell about 5 days ago but still have a lot of floaties. Good to know this will probably sink after I carry to the kitchen
