Brewing High Gravity Beers with limited headspace

I just did a brew that started at 1.113 with zero blow off using fercap s, seriously that stuff is a lifesaver.

    Question about high ABV brew

Everyone has their own preference when it comes to secondaries. I personally always use them but its just because its what I've always done and I have more of them then I have primaries. Just clean/sanitize it as you would your primary fermenter and there isn't any harm in using one that I've...

    Liquid vs DMe

With that being said, has anyone tried making a slurry (like how you do with cornstarch) of distilled water and DME to help it incorporate quicker?

    Brew Your Own

I like their magazines, they put out a lot of good clone recipes that I'm eager to try eventually, but as others say they tend to be hit or miss. You either find an article that really interests you or its just kind of boring. As far as their beginner guide they essentially allocate 2 pages to...

    Imperial stout recipe, need feedback

Ah well that's good news and puts that worry to rest. After researching prices for inline filters and the .5 micron steel airstones Its really not that much more to tack a regulator on there so I may as well take that plunge since I'm brewing such a high gravity beer anyway.

    Imperial stout recipe, need feedback

I think I'd get killed by swmbo if I did that right now, especially since I have a spare air pump in the living room from one of our old tanks. But will definitely add it to my list of eventual buys. I heard you can get a weird flavor if you use pure o2? or is that just if you use too much of ir?

    Imperial stout recipe, need feedback

I'll probably go DME then its easier to get in #1 increments I tend to hurt my back fairly easy and tweaked it pretty good doing my last 5.5 gallon batch, dumping that much weight back and forth repeatedly is not so much fun so I'm experimenting with other ways around it. One of the local...

    Imperial stout recipe, need feedback

Thanks for the feedback, will definitely add some roasted barley to it. I want to steer clear of some of the more burnt flavors that sometimes come along with black patent, while capturing just a hint of smokiness. Would you recommend adding more LME and using it at the full boil or just tossing...

    Imperial stout recipe, need feedback

I've only brewed a few recipes up thus far and really only followed them as they were laid out so this is my first attempt at creating a fairly high abv stout that my friends and I can drink around wintertime. Any pointers that might make this not taste disgusting would be appreciated. I plan to...

    IPA's... what's the draw?

IPA's just bring something different to the table in terms of flavor profile. Its something I developed a taste for after starting my friends down the road of sour beers. You are either going to really like them or you are going to really not, that being said I really do and have a couple Pliny...
