    So who's brewing this weekend?

Brewed half barrel IPA. Warrior bittering. Tons of late addition Amarillo and Mosaic. 40 minute hopstand. Can't wait until it's done!

Mini Wort Chiller (for yeast starters)

OK all, tested the wort chiller out this evening. Everything worked well. Chilling time for 4l of starter took around 15 or so minutes. That's boil to 70 degrees with no stirring. I imagine if I was stirring the time could have been a little less. I consider this a success as it shaved a good...

Mini Wort Chiller (for yeast starters)

So, it seems necessity is indeed the mother of invention. Since I've moved up to brewing larger (half barrel) batches, I've needed much larger yeast starters. Trouble is, it takes me forever to chill the wort down to pitching temp using the old ice water bath technique. Ironically, brewing my...

Stone +Sierra Nevada North by South IPA!

Yes, I had one the last time I visited Stone in Escondido. Very well done collaboration IMHO. Like the previous poster noted, you can definitely taste (smell) the SN influence.

Sparge Temperature - Pt. 1: Standard vs. Cool | exBEERiment Results!

+2 Very interesting study. I too find a hot sparge reduces time to boil.

    Beer Water Filtration

I have a similar water filter (carbon filtration) and have been pleased with the results. I have had my water tested and do water chemistry on my brews using my tap water profile (pretty decent water here). The only problem with my water is the chloramine / chlorine levels tend to fluctuate...

    Message beer menu

Which variety of hipsters do you have? Bearded, flannel, tight pants, socialist? Hipster diversification is incredibly entertaining to study.

    Message beer menu

Typically, I keep a pretty diverse and ever changing rotation in the kegerator. I do have some crowd favorites that I try to keep on hand, but typically I brew based on requests from friends and family and the seasons. Right now I have my house amber ale (not my fav, but everyone else seems to...

Jelly/Gelatin-like substance in bottom of wort (picture)

It is a combination of hot and cold break which settled to the bottom of your kettle. As the others have mentioned, your irish moss did its job. Hot Break as per http://www.howtobrew.com : The foam caused by proteins in the wort that coagulate due to the rolling action of the boil. The wort...

New BCS-462 / RPi Control Panel Build

Yes, here is what I use - never even attempted the on screen keyboard. It's wireless and store nicely on top of the control panel.

New BCS-462 / RPi Control Panel Build

Thanks, everything works well - alarm included. The TV mount certainly wasn't my idea - I used many ideas from the forum in the development of the system. If it was your idea, thanks much! I probably need to update this thread one of these days with the latest improvements. Not today though -...

Blichmann Therminator - Dumps brown water

I'm not familiar with blichman products, but I'm assuming this is a plate chiller. There are several threads on HBT that go into detail about best ways to clean a plate chiller. Some bake in oven, some use PBW, some use caustics. Personally, I've found that circulating PBW works well...

    I broke my brewery

Update: I am now the proud new owner of two pump heads following a series of unfortunate events (RDWHAHB). That said, I was able to brew (late) yesterday afternoon! :mug: The brew session went flawlessly - 16 gallons of Honey Wheat in the conical! Pitched with a yeast blend of WLP029 and WLP001.

New BCS-462 / RPi Control Panel Build

Excellent, let me know how it goes. I'm now having an issue with my y axis getting flipped every time I restart. Haven't had the time to debug.

    I broke my brewery

Yup, agreed. Good news is that I think there are enough threads on the head left. Now off to HD to get and extractor to remove the broken pipe from the T.

    I broke my brewery

Yeah, started brewing in the 90's. No pump back then. Now, my entire system is automated so without one of the pumps, I'm down for the count. Local HBS has a pump head in stock. Brew session delayed until Sunday...

    I broke my brewery

So, after installing my new electric valves on the Brewery I ran I quick test run. I had a small leak, took things apart to tighten fittings. When I went to tighten the ball valve another revolution, I managed to snap the pump head in two. Brewery now broken. So much for tomorrow's 16 brew run...
