    What are you drinking now?

I have a couple to show. Drinking a Bavarian Hefeweizen my son asked me to brew. I bottled it in 22 oz bombers. I'm not crazy about the banana and cloves thing, but he is, and my grandson loves it. (Sorry I need to invest in labels.) I had a German beer last night that was amazing...

Most annoying response when you tell someone you're a homebrewer?

Hi Day_Trippr. My initial reaction/thoughts regarding the "I don't drink" comment would be that this person was afraid to try home brew. There are a lot of misconceptions out there about fermentation in general. My second reaction is that there is more of my brew to drink. Haha. Cheers, Mike

What did I cook this weekend.....

Hi Bleme. Just in case you are not already doing this, it is important to keep the cabbage submerged during fermentation. You can do it with weights made for this purpose. If this is new to you let me know I have pics. My sauerkraut is usually done fermenting in two weeks, but I usually use a...

Moving to BREW IN A BASKET

Thanks Odie, these are good points. My grain basket may be much smaller than my Keggle resulting in a lot of "dead space" outside the basket. Will mash recirculation compensate adequately for efficiency lost due to dead space outside the basket? I am considering recirculating during mash...

    Brew Basket questions

I am new to using a basket.....why would you want the sides of the basket solid? I get the 600 micron larger mesh (you want more exchange of fluids through your mash), but what is the down side of the larger mesh....more trub? Thanks and cheers!

BIAB Keggel, looking for a basket?

Hello - I know this is a very late reply haha, but did you ever find a grain basket that fits inside the keggle, filling up as much volume as possible? That is my current quest.

Moving to BREW IN A BASKET

Thanks for the feedback so far. I am one of those determined to make a keggle work in a basket application, for 5 gallon batches worst case. I love the look of the keggle (esp polished), and the overall Beer Sculpture thing, so I'm going to press with a Keggle design. If I just can't reach a...

Moving to BREW IN A BASKET

Thanks Odie. Regarding my item 1 above, I took a closer look at the basket dimensions required. Given I am prone to brew mostly 5 gallon batches, the fact that my basket will be 3" off the keggle bottom (to be above the drain pipe), results in a lot of space outside the basket. I did not...

Moving to BREW IN A BASKET

I am a long time home brewer, all grain and extract sometimes, brewing in a keggle and and mashing with an igloo cooler. I am transitioning to Brewing in a Basket (in a keggle), and I would appreciate feedback from others that have actually done this. I have attached a drawing of my setup that...

Heated Stir Plate or Not Heated?

Do you brewers use a heated stir plate? I don't have a place to put a non heated stir plate that has a constant temperature in the right range, so I'm thinking a heated stir plate is the answer. Yes I could put the stir plate in an insulated container, but I'd rather not. Any ideas from anyone...

Brew Rig Design - build in progress

I have the option of gravity feeding or pumping, and hinged keggles at this height allows me easier access to them for cleaning. I'm getting too old to lift them and move them around during cleaning, so I made them hinged at eye level.

Brew Rig Design - build in progress

The mash tun is lower so I can gravity feed water into it for the mash and sparge. I would then have to pump the wort into the brewkeg for brewing, and the brewkeg is high so I can gravity feed down through the heat exchanger into the fermentation vessel. Another convenient aspect of the two...

Hop Screen for conical fermenter racking arm

Where did you get your hop screen that we have discussed briefly? I still do not have one. Was there any issue with scratching the vessel when rotating the racking arm?

Brew Rig Design - build in progress

Do you have any pictures? I'm wondering what is the diameter of the brewpot and the basket.....specifically the difference? Do you have spillage when you sparge? Do you use the basket for hops during the boil? What do you use for hoisting the basket, if anything? I'm essentially asking if you...
