    Steeping and size of boil

I am trying an IPA recipe I got off a website but none of the times or size of boil was listed. It seems for a 5 gallon batch a 2.5 gallon to 3 gallon boil to starts is about average. Is there a reason why this would not work? Also, to steep the grains and extract the sugars, it only is...

    SmAller kegs

Does anyone have a source for reasonable 3 gal kegs, I would love to get two for smaller batches but even eBay is spendy, it looks like I am better off using 5 gal kegs.

    Another Dry Hopping Question

Why would kegging lend itself to loosing aroma while in a contained pressurized vessle and not bottle? I keg my stuff too, but have not had the experience to really discover any changes, except that as it conditions in the keg it mellows and gets better.......or maybe I am just looking forward...

    Another Dry Hopping Question

I am wondering what peoples opinions are about their dry hopping practices. How long should the beer be exposed to the hops, I have seen things from 4 days to 2 weeks. What is the optimum time period to dry hop in order to get maximum flavor and aroma.

    Dry Hopping Suggestions

I am going to brew an IPA here shortly and have decided to split the 5 gallon batch into two secondary fermenters and dry hop them with different hops to see what kinds of flavors I can get and how it changes the flavor of the beer. I was wondering what kinds of hops I should consider for the...

Transferring kegged beer to a growler

It seems like everytime I fill a growler it de-carbonates rather quickly, is there a way to keep the carbenation so that it lasts a few days or is it really just for short transports and meant to be consumed in short order?

CO2 in fridge and pressure drops

Simialar expericence to mine the first time I kegged. My buddy works for the company that supplies CO2 and he said that when you cool your CO2 tank, because it is a "liquid" gas that everytime it cools below 50 degrees you look pressure in your tank. My gauges did the same, dropped a pretty...

    Kegging Question

If you force carbonate your brew in a keg and have to disconnect for trasporting away from home, how long before your beer goes flat. Is it hours, days, weeks? I dont want to travel with a keg full of carbonated beer hooked up to the CO2 tank, just for sake of ease.

    Winter brewing in garage

I brew in the garage and during these cold winter days have not considered ventalation. I have a 3 car garage so I would imagine the C02 would need to be rather significant to cause a problem. Between the in and out of cleaning and grabbing all the equipment I for got inside, I am not exposed...

    What do you brew?

Since I am still new to this and I am not entirely sure how to adjust recipies, and I have not looked specifically for smaller batches, are there places where I can easily find some smaller batch recipes? I would really like to experiment but I dont have a lot of extra money to be going too...

    What do you brew?

I have been thinking long and hard about this for the past few weeks. I am new to brewing and have completed one brew, a basic pale ale that came with the brewing kit I bought from my LHBS, and have an African Amber in the secondary fermentaion stage. The first brew was just to get my feet...
