    Newbie to wine

Ok, I am sure I will take some razzing for this but its ok. I am new to wine and have a silly question. I know I am supposed to hit a certain gravity level before I rack to secondary and start the second step of the process but I ran into a problem. I brewed a batch of beer last week and...

    new to wine

One other question, what can i expect in terms of vigorous fermentation? Is it slower and not as active as beer or is it similar? Will an airlock be fine or do I need a blow off tube?

    new to wine

I have a few questions. I have been reading some threads and thinking about making some wine. I have been brewing a while and have most the equipment, my questions are: 1) Do i need new hoses for my auto-siphon, i will use a new fermentor and dedicate it to wine, but not sure about hoses...

    GF brewing

I know my uncle says he can actually eat small amounts of gluten products before he begins to feel the effects of his celiac but I will have to ask my cousin how he reacts. I can do a primary only batch since I have a primary that has not been touched but all my lines and kegs have had regular...

    GF brewing

Sorry if this is a topic that has been posted before but I have not found a thread yet. I am not brewing GF beer for myself, I have several family members that require GF beer so here is my question. I know that some people are highly gluten intolerant or down right allergic, and that cross...

    krausen

This is the first time I have brewed with a larger primary vessel and I was curious about the krausen. I have always used a 5 gal glass carboy primary, but it was suggested to go bigger to avoid losing so much volume of beer during the aggressive fermentation process. So I tried a 6 gallon...

    Reversing Johnson temp control A19AAT

It has two that have screws and connectors already plugged into. I found that there is a black plug between them and was able to pull it out and saw where it fit the same sized screw as the other two posts. I connected the black wire to that, and have the feeling this is what they were talking...

    Reversing Johnson temp control A19AAT

I have seen a few threads on here about this but nothing specific to help me accomplish this. I want to reverse my johnson temp control A19AAT from cooling to heating to help regulate the temp in my fermentation box. I am not quite understanding how to reverse it. The best post I found said...

    Centinnial Hops?

This is a flavor that has been noticed by others as well. I have no idea where it is coming from and have noticed it in commercial beers as well. I dont think it is an off flavor from contamination or anything, its not gross or bad just different and doesnt really make it a tasty beer.

    Centinnial Hops?

Having the added hops throw the balance of the beer sounds reasonable, but like I stated, I tasted the same after bite in two commercially brewed beers too. As far as the citra hops I have found lots of recipes that utilize citra, I was mistaken in my original post. I am going to brew my...

    Centinnial Hops?

I have been wondering if anyone has noticed an odd after taste a few seconds after taking a drink of a heavily hopped beer like an IPA that had a significant amount of centennial hops added to it? Here is why I ask. I like heavy hopped beers, the hoppier the better I say. My last IPA was...

    keg conditioning

i needed to free up my carboy in order to get another batch brewing, i decided to condition my beer in the keg instead of the secondary. can i condition it in the keezer our should i do it at room temps?

    Vanilla Bourbon Stout

I am contemplating it. I am going to keg it today and let it condition in there for a while and see what happens to the vanilla flavor. Hopefully it will settle and more bourbon will come through. If after a couple weeks the bourbon is still unnoticeable I will add more, I have heard anywhere...

    Vanilla Bourbon Stout

How many gallons are you brewing currently? I have a 5 gallon batch. I just checked it to see where the flavor is at and I feel like I have over vanillaed my beer. It does not taste bad, its actually pretty good but the vanilla flavor is coming through more than the beer itself and little to...

    Vanilla Bourbon Stout

I will be making this again for sure so there will be time for experiments. I am going to leave it as is. I also decided a little longer in secondary. I tasted again today and decided it could use a little more time. Yesterday I seemed to have tasted more borboun and less vanilla, today it...

    Vanilla Bourbon Stout

i don't have any plastic, i was thinking plastic primary bucket would be easier to clean than a glass carboy so i may be using one from now on

    Vanilla Bourbon Stout

i started with 4 o ounces and could not really get much flavor from the bourbon so i added 3 more ounces, want quite there so went for one more. i figured i could always add more burbon if necessary. some people use extract vanilla, i may go that route next time but for now i used beans. the...
