Mr Beer - Read all about it and ask questions

Hmm i saw the book on amazon and it seemed like a big reference guide for water ph levels in different cities grain types and other confusing things that i don't feel ready to tackle yet. But if you really think so.. i'm going to check out the how to brew online deally first though. Alright i'm...

aren't kegs good for doing a full boil thingy? instead of a partial? The first thing i read on this forum was that the full boil was better then the partial by a long shot.. Or should i just get like a 15 gallon kettle thingy? Do they make them that big? it'd be kinda cool to do 10 gallons at...

I umm.. left a giant frozen 2 liter in the tub for the night because i knew i wouldn't check it until the next day.. And well it brought the temp down to 50 degrees... >_> God that's low enough for lagering isn't it? It's funny because we've been in the 90's + all week. I think i checked it a...

Hmm, how do the buckets work? i know the Mr. Beer's fancy technology has a magic lid that lets out gases without letting in air.. I understand that that's important.. A buckets sounds like the next step in this hobby though, if there's a convenient way to set it up. I looked up Carboy's the...

Mr Beer - Read all about it and ask questions

hmm, well i wrapped the spigot in plastic already so i think it's less likely to incept(thank you hot for words) into my beer. Yeah eventually i'd like to upgrade my beer kit, but just at the moment it's not really an option. The plastic really bothers me it feels like i can't clean it properly...

Mr Beer - Read all about it and ask questions

hmm i see thank you for the info. I have one more question, the water looks like it's getting kinda gross kinda fast.. probably cause i threw a bunch of ice in it at first(didn't have any frozen water bottles) Do i just not worry about that? or should i dump it out and put clean water in it...

alright well i got it in place, thanks for the advice! i'm a little at a loss of how i'm going to sanitize the spigot while it's still on the fermenter though.. that whole gravity thing and all. i put some plastic wrap and a rubber band around the spigot, but i guess i'll need to sanitize it...

err.. i don't have any temperature controlling things.. umm any suggestions? Preferably a cheaper set up that won't take a lot of space. My first batch was awesome but it was winter and i just left the beer in the laundry room. Now it's summer and i don't think the temperature is stable...

    Filtering the sediment during bottling?

so if i put wood in my beer it'll ferment faster?

    Filtering the sediment during bottling?

Well the last batch was kinda screwed up. Mr. Beer is kind of a cheapo way to start, it does 2 gallons and there's no siphon involved it's just one of those little plastic things you pour lemonade out of.. if that makes sense. I had to move the fermenter when i was bottling and well.. i had a...

    Filtering the sediment during bottling?

I used a Mr. Beer kit thing.. in case that has anything to do with this. Although my questions are pretty basic in nature so i didn't see a point in posting them under the Mr. Beer thread. Filter When i'm bottling the beers can i use something to filter out the yeast that's sitting on the...

Tried the first beer the other day. It was the cowboy Lager. And i used those dextrose tabs instead of normal table sugar. I thought it was amazing. A few family members tried it and seemed to like it to. Although used 9 tabs instead of 11, so the carbonation was a bit low. Not much foam...

Mr Beer - Read all about it and ask questions

Well i'm pretty new to this but i'd imagine the yeast that fell to the bottom of the keg might mix up a bit but i don't see why moving it would be a problem.. especially if it had another week to settle anyway. Although if anyone says differently under me then follow their advice instead, like...

Thanks, congratulations on the upgrade! yeah i doubled what the package said for high carbonation in a beer half the size. Then i took one down because i was afraid it might not be as simple as doubling it. So they say 5 for high carbonation, so i made it 9. Yeah i just put them in yesterday...

I ended up putting these priming sugar tablets in the beer so i wouldn't have to measure it out. They were kind of neat i just threw them in after filling the bottle, like 9 to a bottle so i just hope they don't blow up.. :cross: Anyway, now i got some weird black floating stuff in each...

i don't get what a volume of CO2 is.. seems like i should just use table sugar instead.. save me some head ache and a trip to the store. i'm bottling tomorrow anyway. Oh and can i let it carbonate in the fridge? figured it would be easier then just letting it sit around for a week.

well if i use corn sugar instead, should i use the same amount that i would have used with table sugar?

I notice there's a lot of talk about sugar on here, and i was wondering if i should use normal table sugar in each bottle during the bottling process? Or should i being using some other fancy sugar? like dextrose or something?
