    Made a mistake,fermentation too warm.

I've done almost 10 extract batches with full boils from the beginning with no mistakes, every batch has been awesome. But my latest,an Excelsior Altbier from midwest i made a mistake with.I'm using the White Labs German Ale/Kolsch WL029 yeast that has a temp range of 65 69. When i pitched my...

Should I Sparge with Extract Kits?

I have been brewing for a few months now and started with a hop strainer in my kettle,it plugged every time. Then i used mesh bags from mid west,i think they cut down on hop utilization. Now i just open the valve and let it all drain right in to my carboy.Much easier and it works fine, the beer has...

I have been brewing extract brews with steeping grains,i have done about 7 now.I do full boils in an electric kettle.I'm starting to pay attention to the details now and wonder why my SG was high tonight. I brewed a Excelsior Altbier from midwest tonight and the SG was 1.050,and was supposed...

I have a question about doing a bigger batch.

I need more beer,so i now need to brew bigger batches. Can i just order my extract kits from Midwest as i normally do but just buy two and combine for a 10 gallon brew?.Or would there have to be any adjustments made to the proportions? I would guess it would work just fine but i Want to be...

    Electric keggle wort chiller design?

I use one with my E keggle,I'm just carefull to tip the chiller sideways and put the bulk of the weight on the bottom of the keggle.I also bent the elements down some,I've heard of them braking but mine held up to the bending.

    My electric brewery is functional!

I had an electrician buddy rig it for me,I'm starting to learn some from him now.The only thing that worried me was the dryer outlet on the floor,if i spilled water in that i would be in truoble. It's getting mounted on a wall away from the kettle. Is there any way to Gfi the dryer outlet?

Also,I have Gfi's on the wood panel with the switches, the dryer outlet is going to be mounted off the floor and away from the kettle before the next brew.

I would hazard to guess yes,I've only begun to try and understand electricity.I had a buddy help me do it that knows more than me.

    My electric brewery is functional!

It would boil, but not a good boil.I use one to raise the temp if the temp starts to drop on the steeping grains.

    My electric brewery is functional!

I used two elements so i could turn each off individually and use just one if i want.I'm making an Irish stout tonight, and drinking a Belgian trappist ale i brewed. I know, the carpet will not last long, the room was going to be for something else before i decided it was to be a brew room.

    My electric brewery is functional!

I'm not done yet but i am brewing tonight!.It's nothing compared to some crazy stuff I've seen here but it works and allowed me to move out of the kitchen to a dedicated room. I used two 120v 2k watt elements just on switches, hooked to a spare 30 amp 240v dryer circuit that was not used.

    Started the electric keggle.

Ok,It's finished mostly.I did a test boil with seven gallons tonight. In 65 minutes i went from 110 degrees to a boil, not a hard boil but i think good.In one hour i boiled down to about 5 1/4 gallons.Does that sound under powered to you?I'm not sure if I'm happy with it yet.

I ended up just getting the conduit lock nuts,I'm impatient. They said they were just steel on the package but I'm going to heat them red just in case there is any coating.

I wondered about them being close too,i plan to try and give them a slight bend away from each other.
