    New Anvil Bucket Fermentors

In case anyone is curious, I added a 1.5" TC ferrule to the lid of my Anvil Fermentor. Take a look: Full album: https://imgur.com/gallery/hSkVfDo I for one am really looking forward to using my 1.5" TC CIP micro sprayer on my next batch. :)

    Fixing the Anvil Fermentor Lid

UPDATE: I successfully soldered the TC ferrule to the lid. Take a look: https://imgur.com/gallery/hSkVfDo I'm 95% happy with the result. I've soldered a bunch of pullthrough bulkheads before, so this wasn't my first rodeo; however, I feel like I got a couple of "pits" in the solder...

50a PID Control Panel, 2 elements.

Get a new electrician. Like @doug293cz said, most electric stoves are 50amp -- mine sure is. The only way it would "immediately catch fire" is if the electrician didn't do his job right.

    Lion Brewing Solutions (on eBay)

https://www.ebay.com/usr/lionbrewingsolutions I've made a few purchases through this shop and saved big when eBay runs 15-20% off promotions. On July 2nd, I bought a Tilt Hydrometer from them. I paid immediately and waited patiently. On July 10th, they marked my item as shipped, yet when I...

Am I the only one that uses epsom salt (MgSO4) in my water profile?

Everyone talks about adding Calcium Chloride and Gypsum, but I never hear of anyone adding epsom salt (which effects the Magnesium levels in the resulting water profile). According the EZ Water Calculator, Palmer recommends a Magnesium level of 10-30ppm which usually means about 4 grams of...

    Removing a soldered ferrule

Good news. Yesterday I disassembled the innards of my HLT, and put my torch to the flange until it fell off. I was able to wipe most of the solder off pretty easily and then I took wire wheel to the kettle and flange to clean them back up to a shine. It was clear after removing the flange...

    Fixing the Anvil Fermentor Lid

@BrionLax I just ordered the parts to do this. I was a little delayed with a few batches of beer that were finishing up and dialing in my new HERMS system. If I'm thinking about this correctly, having the gas post (https://www.brewhardware.com/product_p/tc15blg.htm) on the top of the fermenter...

    New Anvil Bucket Fermentors

Has anyone had any luck doing pressure transfers with a large dry hop bill? 8oz+? With my first batch, I had 2oz of dry hops. I cold crashed for 48 hours to 36 degrees, and the valve clogged after about half of the batch was transferred. It was an open transfer and I only had the valve open...

Constantly recirculating and still getting grain particulate in my kettle

Roger that -- I'll dial back the pump even further and see if that solves my problem. From what I understand, the speed of recirculation has no real effect on the overall quality of the final product, so no point in pushing it. ...right?

Constantly recirculating and still getting grain particulate in my kettle

Interesting. I am turning my pump off between mashout and sparging since I need to swap hoses. Are you suggesting keeping the pump on and just closing the ball-valve on the pump "outlet"? I don't *think* I'm recirculating too fast, but I can always dial it back a bit more. I'm using one of...

Constantly recirculating and still getting grain particulate in my kettle

It's tough to say how much made it into the BK. A lot of the particles got caught up in the "loop" I created with the hose. The particles settled at a low spot and then since the pump was turned all the way down, the flow was slow enough to keep them there. If I had to guess, probably about...

Constantly recirculating and still getting grain particulate in my kettle

I use the clear high temp silicone hose from BargainFittings and I can see them trickling down as I sparge. The particles appear to flow throughout the whole sparging process. It's not a lot, but it's really frustrating to watch after I know I just spent an hour recirculating absolutely clear...

Constantly recirculating and still getting grain particulate in my kettle

I'm taking a wild guess on the flow rate. My pump is rated at 5-6gpm and I'm running it at about half speed during mash recirculation. When I fly sparge, I turn it down as low as I can go (which ends up being about a 45min sparge). You bring up "thickness" -- I've always mashed at...

Constantly recirculating and still getting grain particulate in my kettle

I calculated an 88% mash efficiency. One of the best preboil gravities I've ever gotten. When fly sparging, I'm adding hot water from my HLT via a locline arm. I'm keeping 1-2" of water above the grainbed and when I'm done sparging, the grainbed looks immaculate. I'm PRETTY sure I'm not...

Constantly recirculating and still getting grain particulate in my kettle

I'm 2 batches in with my new custom built E-HERMS system and this last batch was really smooth. I worked out a ton of issues I had with my first batch and was able to get record high efficiencies. BUT, there was one odd issue... Let's start with some background info: Mashing in a 10 gallon...

Constant recirculation in mash vs other

This is just another example that there's no one right way to mash. I personally recirculate constantly throughout my entire mash process and it works well for me (now that I got my system dialed in), but I also built my panel/controls with the assumption that I'll be constantly circulating...

    hlt recirculation pump

I highly recommend the 12v bayite. I started on one of those and it served me well for quite a while. This is the exact one I bought (hard to go wrong for $24.50 on Prime): http://a.co/34h8Ysu I'm now running two "China Chuggers" that I picked up on aliexpress...

Inkbird ITC-106vh Temperature Jumps -- Normal?

See that's the thing -- the HLT temp tends to jump a bit here and bit there, but ultimately my mash temp holds PERFECTLY. As long as the mash temp is consistent, I really don't care what the HLT PID is displaying. I'll play with the digital filter setting to see if I can smooth things out. I...

Inkbird ITC-106vh Temperature Jumps -- Normal?

I could use some feedback if the behavior I'm seeing is normal: I have two Inkbird ITC-106vh on my control panel (one for HLT and one for MT). I'm using RTD PT-1000 sensors. I calibrated both carefully and found them both to be about 6 degrees off (I corrected that easily on the PIDs). I...

    Removing a soldered ferrule

Actually. Scratch that. I had to drill a 1-3/8” hole for the radiused ferrule. The pull through ferrules require a smaller 1-1/4” hole. I guess I’m stuck cleaning up one I have and trying again. I had much better luck the second kettle I soldered and that ferrule looks perfect and is water tight.
