Hop garden pic & what is this

When I first started growing hops, I read that some pests lived near the ground and would climb up and infest the leaves. They could slowly move up and infest leaves that were higher. Eliminating lower leaves makes it so they can't get a start. If I remember correctly, the pest thus targeted...

    Status of Beerlabelizer.com?

I've never used it, but just tried it and it loaded fine.

Hop garden pic & what is this

I always try to remove the leaves at the bottom. I cut all of the leaves off for the first two feet or so.

I stand corrected. Ladybugs are wonderful. Don't kill them.

Freezing Bottles Before Bottling From Keg - Sanitize?

I haven't bottled from my keg I a long time and didn't freeze my bottles when I did, but if I remember correctly, I'd sanitize and cover with a sanitized cap overnight. I think you'd want to do the same if you freeze. If you can't keep the bottles upright in the freezer, I'd sanitize just...

Hop garden pic & what is this

That leaf doesn't look healthy. Or even alive. It also looks like there are webs between sections of the leaf. If they are spider webs, that's ok (and maybe even good because spiders will eat pest insects). But if they are mites, that's a bad thing. I doing recognize the bug, but I'm guessing...

Shopping for a reasonably priced eBrew system

I recently bought brewers edge mash and boil. It doesn't have as many bells and whistles as some of the others but it gets the job done.

    Inappropriately named brews...

Apocryphal story: When e-mail filters were new, a law firm installed one. Unfortunately, it filtered every email to, from, or cc the managing partner, whose first name was Richard, but went by Dick.

    Don't Do That.

Not me, but I read about a guy who hooked up a pump backwards and pumped sewage into his brew pot. Don't do that. I think he also made a batch of beer using donuts with a recipe he got from Kato Kaelin. But I was drinking while reading his posts, so I may be a bit fuzzy on the details. If...

Something ate my hop plants will they survive?

With hops, the most important part is the root. As long as the root is alive, it should spring back.

should i dry hop my old Pale ale?

I didn't dry hop it and haven't tapped it yet, but this isn't the first time life got in the way and based on past experience, it should be fine.

    Odd town/street name

You forgot San Jose, IL (pronounced San Joes). Utah has Tooele (too IL uh) and Monroe (MAHN row).

47 hops anyone order from them

I ordered mine a day after you ordered yours and got mine 3 days earlier. It's not often that living in Utah is good for a beer drinker.

Dachsunds are hunting dogs. They were originally bred to go into badger burrows and flush out the badgers. Badgers are pretty vicious animals, and dachshunds dig into their burrows and pick fights with them.

    What's eating my hops!?

Are most of the leaves with problems fairly low? If so, trim all of the leaves that are below about 3 feet high.

    Ideal Fermentation Temperature

Keep in mind that fermentation is exothermic so the wort temperature will be higher than ambient temperature, especially during the most active phase of fermentation.

5 pounds is still enough to make a couple of batches.

should i dry hop my old Pale ale?

I had a recent brew where I was busy the weekend I intended to keg and then threw my back out. That beer stayed in the fermenter for 35 days.

    OG/FG and ABV?

I was going to ask your mash temperatures, but saw that it's an extract kit. That's a much lower fg than I'd expect. What yeast did you use? Edited to fix autocorrect expect/ exist

    Question about use by dates

The yeast is unlikely to be any good. If the extract is in a can, make sure it's not dented at any seams and make sure it's not bulging. If it's dented at a seam or bulging, it could be dangerous. If it's not dented at a seam or bulging, the kit will likely make beer, but it will not be the...
