Unboxing the Nano from CO Brewing

I found the keys to these systems are the right size crush, the SS manifold, stiring a couple of times during mash and rice hulls.

How many gallons do you estimate are under the bottom of your basket? Does your system have a recirc port under the basket?

I It does sit below the water line but not sure why you would need the Blichmann Auto Sparge? You just adjust your flow after you dough in. I set it to maximize the amount of water going over the grain but also keeping the element covered. Usually just two adjustments when mashing.IMG_2801...

The ss manifold is really straight forward, no issues. I usually stir3 times during the mash, initial dough in, 20, and 40 min.

The amount of debris also varies by the different types of grain. I find the darker the grain the more debris. Also raising the basket slowly while continuing the circulation over the mash (kind of a vorlauf) will keep the debris to a minimum. I have only used the SS manifold and have never...

You may want to open that up to .038 to .042. That may be part of you stuck mash problem. .038 is the smallest I will go. Also how many pounds of rice hulls did you use? A lot of the true in the kettle looks like hops.

    1) Do you stir the grains other than the initial dough in? 2) Do you use a hop spider or basket? Also your whirlpool fitting is in the wrong spot. It needs to be to the left of the pickup tube to form a clocckwise whirlpool

Mine is just attached to the ceiling. I just pull the basket over into a plastic tub. I have the 25 gallon pot/basket but a unistrut would be nice to add. 55431053177__08896D14-CF10-46B0-A3C5-69F6AB40492C by Dockside_Brewing posted Nov 10, 2018 at 9:52 PM

Imperial Stout Sweet Chocolate Milk Stout

I ended up at 1.033 so not too far off . It spent 22 days in the fermenter and I just kegged it up. The stout faucet makes such a pretty pour. It is delicious and I know it will get better each day.

    Unboxing the Penguin Chiller

I use about 6 feet on one and about 8 on the other tank. I put them in a foam pipe sleeve and use the valved two line connectors from US plastics. That avoids any siphoning when disconnected. The pumps have no issues being mounted above the unitanks.

1.8 gph on the boil off with condenser and .82 grain absorption rate for BIAB seems spot on for my system. I am using the 25 gallon Nano. I think I am going to try .039 on the crush for the next brew down from .042.

Thanks for the info. I agree it was too low. I made mine .75 and will test it out tomorrow.

I just updated my grain absorption rate in beersmith. They have two in the settings, one for standard mash and one for BIAB. Since I select BIAB I upped that one. I am brewing tomorrow so I will let you know how it goes.

    FTSs Brewtech Glycol Chiller

Just to update I ended up going with the SS Brewtech Unitank. I have a 15 gallon and a 1/2 barrel both with the temp control. I have them both hooked up to a 1/2 hp Penguin chiller. The temp control is rock solid.
