    Dry Hopping Question

All, Have a Yoppers amber ale just about done fermenting and I am not sure if i can bottle tonight. It has been dry hopping for 7 days, can I try and remove the dry hops and bottle in a day or two or just bottle tomorrow morning whithout worry? Don't want to ruin this beer as the samples have...

Is my grain mill set right?

For Mash out I did try and raise temps but was having some issues with it, made it to about 160ish over ten minutes and pulled the grain. Poured the water over it in another kettle and then squeezed the absolute crap out of it. The internals were still pretty warm/hot after pouring, probably...

Is my grain mill set right?

Thank you for the responses. I will probably not brew again until mid December since I am on travel but I will try to repeat the process. And Stpug, really appreciate the in depth look and thoughts, I have been on the road since Saturday and have not had the time to digest everything...

Is my grain mill set right?

Well, I did not see any dough balls in the grain, I made sure I stirred it after the mash and then the "sparge" to ensure complete mixing and sugar extraction. I sqeezed the grain as best as I could but there may have been some left in the bag. Hard to say really. I started with 6 gallons in the...

Is my grain mill set right?

Just to update... I just brewed a Yooper Broken Leg House Amber (very excited) using the grain mill settings as above. I managed about a 69% efficiency this time using the milled grains, and sparging a bit with room temp water so I could squeeze the bag when I was done. I am still getting a...

Is my grain mill set right?

Thanks man! I will back it off slightly and go with that, hopefully it will help with efficiency.

    How does this look?

Is my grain mill set right?

I had it set finer but was worried it would be too much! I will go a little tighter, basically it should be hard to turn the crank correct?

Is my grain mill set right?

I just bought a mill and want to see if I am set right for BIAB. Please let me know!

    All grain Blue Moon

There a re couple of good all grain recipies in the reciepies section, this is one I used and it came out pretty good. 5.25 lb US 2-row 4.5 lb Weyermann Light Wheat Malt 1.0 lb Flaked Wheat 4 oz Acid Malt (for pH adjustment) 1.325 oz Hallertau (3.9%, pellet) 70 min (90 min if chilling)...

Having trouble with mash temps and whirlpool

I did my third BIAB this past weekend as well and while i did manage to get my efficiency up to 67% without double milling I did have trouble maintaining the mash temps. I hit strike temp at 166 and when I put the grain in the temps fluctuated quite a lot. I stirred the water before I put the...

    First all grain brew report

Nice, when did you get out? I was Eng on USS ASHEVILLE. Brewing is a great way to relax after that tour!

    Basket or no basket

I have the BC kettle and have brewed 2 beers (about to be number 3 today!) and it has been great. I use the basket to allow the grains to drain for a little bit before I start squeezing them to get everything out. Going to try to do a little bit different today but I think the basket is...

    How to improve my efficiency

I am going to be trying a few different methods on my next batch (Sierra Nevada Celbration Clone) this weekend. I will be doing the following to see if I can improve: 1) Reserving 1 gallon of water for "washing the grains" into my old extract brew pot, planning on warming up the water...

Need Electrical Help for Stir Plate

Use a 12 volt and split the circuits, use a main on/off in the back and then seperate on/off for the each of the stir plates. The on/off for each plate would need to be in line with the POTS and you would have a common ground for return. Should be pretty easy to wire if you did it like that.

    first time dry hopping

I do the same thing with the muslin bag and hops but i have added a few marbles to make it sink down into the beer. Although this past batch I didn't add enough marlbels, need like 5 or so to make sure it sinks.

    yeast starter for extract brewing?

I just started doing yeast starters for my last two batches and had much better attenuation than when using dry yeast, I think it does help with the beer but I won't know for sure until I bottle and taste, and that is probably open to debate. Plus it was fun making the DIY stir plate, and doing...

    Basic brewday questions

I just used my 6.5 gallon bucket instead of the carboy as it was much easier when starting out and doing partial boils and adding top off water. I finally got tired of the ice bath and cooling issues on my 4th batch and found a decent 10G kettle and a propane burner to do BIAB and built a DIY...

    Chiller Upgrade

I built a 40' ½ id copper immersion chiller using two 20' lengths. Works great for chilling wort (well at least in my limited experience). My last brew was chilled from boiling to pitching temps in 13mins. Total spent was about 60 bucks and I added some custom fittings and valves to give it that...
