Grain crushing for BIAB vs AG?

Efficiency will be tough without your own mill or without double crushing, I noticed a big difference between the two. If you are serious about BIAB then your own mill is invaluable. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

You won't get any yeastie flavor from sitting on the yeast cake as there is not enough weight from the beer to cause this. That is only a problem for breweries and large scale home brewing. I would recommend leaving it in the primary, you will need your bottling bucket empty for bottling. Plus...

    Hop Schedule Questions

Experimenting is fun with brewing! I would add a few more oz of hops but I like em hoppy, otherwise should be fine. Let us know how it turns out!

Yes, bitterness should not be affected I think as long as you maintain the temperature in the desired range for the yeast it should be fine. The yeast will still be working on clean up and things will be dropping out of solution. You really need to check the FG to determine when the...

    Brewcraft Kit opinions?

They all look like extract kits so you will probably get something similar to what you get at the local store. You do have to add a yeast pack to them though and it doesn't show prices. Might as well call and ask some details about the product.

biab bags. paint strainer vs adventures in homebrew?

For a first attempt it depends on the size of your brew, I used the 5 gallon paint sprayer bags with no issue but decided to go with wilserbrewers bags after some issues with efficiency and using the turkey fryer basket wit hthe 5 gallon bag. What size BIAB are you doing?

A few beginner questions about my first 5 gallon batch

I use a muslin bag with some marbles in it (all sanitized of course) don't sanitize the hops though. I try not to go past 7 days of dry hopping, I am sure others have had more experience than I but that's what I have been doing.

I just chucked in 3oz of citra to an IPA, really love this hop and the aroma and flavor. :mug:

A few beginner questions about my first 5 gallon batch

Can always dry hop the beer before you bottle, 5-7 days with some more citra hops, it might help with the aroma. I am sure their recipe is great but the best part about this hobby is changing things ever so slightly to give it your own unique character!

    Cooling the Wort???

The top is more of a barrier to keep things out, it does take a little longer to cool with it on but as long as nothing fell into the beer while it was cooling you should be fine

    Cooling the Wort???

Before I got my wort chiller it would take me an hour or so to chill the batch, never had any issues.

what liquid do I put in the bottle in which the blow-off tube goes?

Star San Solution that you use for sanitizing your equipment

    Losing Beer through blow-off

Shouldn't be to much of an issue, my blow off tubes routinely have krausen in them. I do change the sanitized solution every few days for the first week to keep it moving and after a week I shift to the air lock. I did not have this problem until I started using liquid yeasts with starters which...

    trub question

My last two batches with wilserbrewers bags have been fairly clean when I go to the fermentor, no issues with trub or anything (I made a hop spider which has helped keep a significant amount of hop material out of the brew). I also brewed a batch of the BM Blonde! Made a few changes but hit the...

Using your boil kettle for other purposes?

I use my 5 gallon pot for Sous Vide Chicken, but the 10 gallon is only for beer since I am not sure what I would actually cook in there besides a boat load of lobstah! I was planning on using my 5 gallon one for soup as well but that got cancelled.

20 or 50' copper for DIY wort chiller?

I did the 20 foot 1/2" pipe and used a coupling to join two 20' sections together. Works really well for the 5 gallon batches and I think it will work great if I go to 10 gallon batches. I had the same issue with the selection and decided the 1/2" would be better.
