First BIAB attempt, good IPA recipe?

I did something similar: 12lbs of 2-row 1lb - 10L 1lb of 40L 1lb of briess 1oz magnum at 60 3 oz of citra at 20 3 oz at flame out or 5 mins (gut call) came out really yummy, I am sure I will get flamed for wrong fermentables but I did that and it worked. It is a tasty brew. Citra is a great...

    Let's debate/discuss mash times

I will be brewing two batches this weekend, the first is an imperial stout so it may not be the best to try a shorter mash time, but the second is going to be a basic west coast IPA so I may try to get the mash time down a little and see how it comes out. I usually mash for 60-90 minutes...

Comedy of Errors ---> Best IPA I've Brewed

I just bottled a beer with similar hop bill and had a bunch of issues from the get go... not as many as you but thought it was going to be horrible! Smells awesome and can't wait to crack one open!

How tight is your grain mill set?

Wow! I will be setting mine tighter. Not brewing again until the end of the month though... :( Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

Anyone have pictures of their crush? Would like to compare mine to yours!

Sample After 3 Days In Primary Was Insanely Bitter

Looks yummy, as for the bitterness, I think the others have hit the nail in the head with the relax and lit her sit for another week or two. I recently did some testing with two different IPA's I brewed. One I added a bunch of hops near the end of the boil and the other I dry hopped. The dry...

    High efficiency Guys

I guess it's time to get the screw driver out and start tinkering! :mug:

    High efficiency Guys

RM-MN, will do, was planning on grabbing some thickness gauges at HD before my next batch which will be an imperial stout 3.5 gallon batch. It has a huge grain bill so this will be quite an undertaking but looking forward to it! Do you have a picture of what your crush looks like? Or anyone...

    High efficiency Guys

I usually hit 65% and crushing my own grain. Do you calculate the efficiency prior to the start of the boil? Still a bit of a Newbie to the BIAB, although I have several batches under my belt I am always looking for ways to improve my own process. I do crush my own grain but I think I need to...

Ways to adjust the clarity of my current beer

Not sure how you took that sample but it looks like a lot of yeast are in there plus some other stuff... I have not tried any of the clarifying stuff you mentioned but the last two beers I brewed came out much clearer than previous batches. I do BIAB using bags from Wilserbrewer and when I...

When should I begin secondary fermentation?

I have been dry hopping in the primary for all my beers that required it. Only issues I have had are some chill haze but I don't belive that racking to a secondary would help that. I think you run a higher risk of infection when transferring the beer to another vessel, it is pretty easy to just...

    Cleaning bottles

I guess I should clarify that, after I dump the sanitizer out I then place the bottles upside down in the fast rack system thing (which have been sanitized as well). Once I am done sanitizing all the bottles I start filling and capping. The bottles are still wet when I start filling.

    Cleaning bottles

I usually rinse my bottles after drinking then let them dry and when I am ready to bottle I rinse them again with super hot water from the tap, let them dry then use a bucket with star san and submerge the bottles until they are full and then carefully dump them out and let them dry while the...

BIAB = shorter mash time needed?

Something else to think about for the retort to your LHBS, would be that a big brewery would require more grain as well as a massive bag to do a normal sized batch. BIAB is great for home brewers becuase it accomplishes a similar task with less equipment (I did say similar not exact!) In my...

What Hops to use for Imperial IPA

    Another IPA dry hop question

Might want to take a few FG readings over a few days to ensure you are at FG. I just dry hopped a blond ale after 3 weeks, it hit FG about 6 days ago.

    Use a Blow-off!

Looking at these pics scares me a little, I was planning on doing a 3 gallon imperial stout and putting it in a 5 gallon carboy to keep my main two fermentors available for other "normal" beer. Think there is risk with a 1.1ish 3 gallon batch in a 5 gallon carboy with a blow off? Planning on...

    Multiple Dry Hop Additions?

I just did a dry hop for 8 days and then bottled (Super Bowl got in the way of bottling!) Beer tasted great with an amazing aroma. Can't wait for it to carb up!
