Best Place to Buy A Kettle?

I'm in the market for a 15gl kettle and was wondering if anyone in HBT land had any recommendations. The running rate seems to be in the $250 range w/ ball valve and thats looking through the Vendor links here. My local CL didnt have anything posted either and that's where i found a some sweet...

    Yeast: dry or liquid

The only bad thing about dry yeast is if you pitch it to early/ warm you'll have a fricken wort volcano. Otherwise, exactly what Kaz said. Personally i prefer dry yeast and its cheaper!

Brew This Weekend Ready By Dec. 21...Is it Possible...Suggestions?

Whatsa Happenin HBT! :fro: I was hoping to share some homebrew with some co-workers for the holidays but with piss poor planning i never got around to it and i'd be damned if i give out my good stuff! :rockin: I'm was looking for some recommendations for a brew that would be ready in a month...

    Whats up From the 831

First off, this place F'n rocks with all the archived info and seasoned Brewers and Mods who chime in to help out I'm located in Mid-Cali in the Monterey area, Salinas to be exact. I've been brewing for about 8 months or so and loving it. I'm a web marketer by trade so I have a semi-legit...

IIPA FG @ 1.022 is it done?

Thanks Yooper for pointing out the uhhh- no duuuhhh advice to making the beer more maltier.:drunk: I thought 2lbs of DME would be enough but i guess not. That stuff can get expensive and can see upgrading to a 10gl MT would eventually pay itself off in the long run. Any advice on adding...

IIPA FG @ 1.022 is it done?

mkultra- I only have a 5gl MT that maxes out at 13lbs with an LTGR of 1.25qt/1lb. I'll definitely mash at a lower temp next time around to create more fermentables but i would have been stoked if FG was under 1.020. I kegged it almost a week ago and dry hopped it with 1oz of Cascade and an oz...

Advice on a Prickly Pear - Hefe

Right on Juan!:rockin: I'm sure it will have some useful info i can use for my Hefe/American wheat prickly pear brew! I did stumble across an article online about a brewery in Texas that did something similar but it didn't say anything about the recipe.

IIPA FG @ 1.022 is it done?

Right on and thanks again everyone for the advice...i'll go with the consensus and just move the carboy in the house and see what happens over the next week and plan to keg after that.

    Mead Noob - First Batch

I agree taking a gravity reading is the best way to monitor the progress of fermentation and don't see a problem with doing so from the carboy. What about the 1gl? I'd think filling hydro tester tube a few times would eventually make dent in my stash. Does anyone out there on mead land just take...

IIPA FG @ 1.022 is it done?

Thanks for the replies everyone. I think warming it to room temp and a little stir will be my first attempt to get things going again, but do i risk anything by throwing in additional yeast (slurry or dry) other than having more dead yeast in the wort if it doesn't work when all said and done?

IIPA FG @ 1.022 is it done?

Thanks for the reply Bowtie, Yes, i only used 1 packet of Nottingham. I was hoping for an FG under 1.020 and samples of the wort are tasty but just a little too sweet and think dropping a few points would bring this from good to great. I think i will sneak it in the house but needed some...

IIPA FG @ 1.022 is it done?

I brewed an iipa almost 3 weeks ago with an OG of 1.075 and the past 2 readings have been at 1.022ish. I wasn't sure if it was stuck or if the high mash temps are the cause of unfermentables and the high FG reading. Here is the recipe. 10lbs MO .5lbs C60 .5lbs C40 .5lbs Munich Mashed...

    Mead Noob - First Batch

So i've dragged the carboy into the house where the temps are much more stable, but I cant really tell at this point if fermentation is moving along any stronger as the bubbling in the airlock looks the same as it was in the shed. I also boiled a capsule of servomyces in 300ml of water for 15...

Advice on a Prickly Pear - Hefe

I had the same braggot and was not totally impressed but glad i tried if that makes any sense. Yea, i was thinking of cooking it down too and turning it into a puree, but on the fence as when to add it. In the boil you lose flavor, in the secondary you risk infection, but i like your split idea...

Advice on a Prickly Pear - Hefe

It's that time of year and the prickly pears are booming and i have a neighbor who was kind enough to give me roughly 10lbs of the things i'm going to use to make a beer. This will be my first attempt at a fruit beer so i wanted to get some advice from you seasoned vets out there. I was...

    Mead Noob - First Batch

What do you think about boiling a couple capsules of servomyces in some water and tossing that in? I've read the opinions and most of the gripes seem to be related to price compared to nutrients vs. whether or not it will work. i have a pack on hand is the reason i ask. Otherwise i'll nuke a...

    Mead Noob - First Batch

AHAHAHaa....Yea, i think it is the "crackhead caught on tape merion berry". I think i'll take your advice and drag the carboy into the house to help out the yeast!

    Mead Noob - First Batch

Good Afternoon, I've been brewing brewskis for almost a year and loving it and about 3 months ago met a homebrewer who was generous enough to share a glass of his home made mead which was fantastic. It was a dry melomel that aged roughly 6 months and i was completely hooked after that. I've...
