How do YOU use Wet Hops?

I used mine for the first time last night. I used some dried hops for bittering at the 60 mark, and used as much wet cascades as i could fit in my kettle within the last 15 minutes. Then i chilled for a bit and let it stew for an hour. The whole garage still smells like hops.

    Neighborhood Hops! Too many!

Amen brother. If I didn't have to go to work soon I would be firing up the kettle right now. Probably do something simple with 2 row and some crystal malt. Some of these cones were upwards of 3 inches long. really amazing.

    Neighborhood Hops! Too many!

Once upon a time i happened to look into my neighbors back yard. I saw their back fence covered with hop vines. I promptly asked permission to pick said hops and found out I only had access to half the full crop, the other half growing in the yard over. I picked for probably 1 1/2 hours and had...

Newbie . Have hops , not sure what to brew

Do you use beersmith or any other software to help design beers? If I'm not sure exactly what I can or want to brew I just mess around on beersmith with different hops, grains, and styles. It also gives a pretty good description of hop/grain profiles.

Newbie . Have hops , not sure what to brew

Hard to go wrong with doing something simple with those Chinook's. Great for bittering but I've also grown to enjoy them as aroma/flavor additions as well. I dry hopped a Pacific Northwest Red ale with them and it turned out awesome.

which of these should I purchase...

Only speaking from my own experience I would suggest the northern brewer kit. I bought the basic starter kit not the deluxe one though. I've never had any experience with morebeer or fhsteinbart. I've really enjoyed the northern brewer kit and found it to be pretty solid for a beginning brewer.

    Midnight CDA

Looks good! I've been itching to try making one but I've only tasted a few examples of the style. For my tastes I believe that a CDA should have a little roast to it but needs that huge hop flavor/aroma. I tried Hop in the Dark and found it to be far too roasted compared to Armored Fist by...

    American IPA Caldera IPA Clone

I have been trying to put together a Caldera IPA clone as well and I was wondering how close you came to the actual brew itself with this recipe?

When to add hops to boiling wort?!?

once you bring your water to a boil you remove it from the heat and add your extract. after thoroughly mixing the extract into the water you return it to the heat and bring it back to a boil then add your hops and start your timer

When to add hops to boiling wort?!?

yeah generally I add my hops right as the wort comes back to a boil and I start my timer.

When to add hops to boiling wort?!?

I've never used True Brew but if you ever branch out I recommend Austin Hombrew or Northern Brewer. Their kits are really great for the most part.

    New hop vine tattoo!

thanks! Yeah I really liked the balance between simplicity and detail the artists put into it. For a first tattoo I didn't think it was that bad, the coloring stung a bit though!

When to add hops to boiling wort?!?

It does change for various types of beer, but most standard kits should have you add a designated amount of bittering hops after you have brought the wort to a boil (after adding the malt extract) and boil for 60 minutes. But there should usually be a small addition of flavoring or aroma hops...
