Need help selecting my first extract beer recipe kit?

Seeing as how I've never had that particular beer I can only speculate on a extract kit that shares similar hops and malts. It looks like on sam adams web page that their Boston Ale uses 2 row and crystal plus East Kent Goldings and Fuggles. It also has a pretty low abv. I would say anything...

    First time brewing ...;)

+1 to this. When I did my first extract brew I followed the directions to the dot. I let it ferment for 1-2 weeks primary and then let it sit in secondary for a week.

    CDA questions!

The thing is I ordered some of my grain bill and tried to supplement it with what I had on hand. I have plenty of base grains, chocolate malt, carared, crystal 60, some crystal 10, flaked oats, flaked wheat, i think some munich as well. If I can avoid ordering more specialty grains I will. As...

    CDA questions!

How much more chocolate do you think would give it a nice subtle roast without being too much? And I initially was going to just use columbus as bittering but I too thought it would be a nice counter point to the citra and galaxy! So ill be using it as a flavor and dry hop.

    CDA questions!

Yeah this is going to be pretty aggressively hopped.Beersmith has it calculated at around 99ibu's

    CDA questions!

So I have a basic recipe formulated but I'm not sure if I want to use a combination of the Carafa III and some chocolate malt, or just one or the other. I haven't made many darker beers so here is my proposed grain bill: 9# Marris Otter 1# Caramal/Crystal 60L 13.5 oz Carared 4 oz...

    New hop vine tattoo!

For a first time tattoo it wasn't bad. Don't let anyone scare you into thinking it's super painful. I mean I guess if you have a super low pain tolerance it could suck, but I did mine all in one session and it was bearable.

    Sauvin Pils

So I was able to find some Nelson Sauvin pellets that weren't way over priced compared to others and decided to try lagering for the first time! Used: 10lb Bohemian Pils malt 1lb Crystal 10l 1oz Nelson Sauvin @ 60 .5oz Nelson Sauvin @20 .5oz Nelson Sauvin @10 Did a single infusion...

    New hop vine tattoo!

Yeah if the ribs hurt without color then it would be excruciating with it! Color requires a faster needle speed usually, and more of them...

    New hop vine tattoo!

Thanks! I'm thinking about extending it to a half sleeve. Still undecided right now...

Dispensing a full keg at once, can I use air instead of co2?

I think it would be easier to see how CO2 is used to purge the oxygen out of the bottle in the process of draft bottling! I'm not advocating that the original poster go and buy this system because it is expensive and there would also be a need for a distribution system anyway. While the video...

    Can't decide!

You are correct! And more kegs I suppose...

    Can't decide!

I think I'm going to have to order up that Surly Furious kit see how it goes. I just hate how northern brewer reworked their shipping prices....but the Bitter Brewer kit turned out so good I guess it's worth it. I did this same method for my harvest ale except that it was an extract and I...

    Can't decide!

I prefer extreme hop over extreme malt! Is Surly Furious pretty good?
  19. Eliterunner1

    Can't decide!

Well this last batch I made was the Surly Bitter Brewer pro series kit and it turned out really great. Yooper I might just have to check out some of your recipes! College started up again and it's killing my time but I want to keep the rotation going
