Questions about March Pumps answered by the Factory!

Walter, I have a March 815 pump and I've been having a problem with the impeller. About 4 or 5 times during a brew session the pump will make an abrupt seizing noise and the impeller will quit spinning and the flow will stop. I immediately turn the pump off and when I turn it back on, it...

Virginia Tech Keezer Build w/ Pics

What I found was that the repairs would cost $150-200 which was more than I was willing to spend. I found another used freezer for $50 and decided I would wait a little while to make sure it worked before putting all the work into painting it again. I haven't read of many people having this...

Virginia Tech Keezer Build w/ Pics

Nice work. Very nice classic Hokies look. I'm sad to say my North Carolina keezer died a premature death (compressor went out). I've yet to paint the new one with the same scheme, but here it was before its death:

    Iphone apps for home brewing?

I've been struggling with the same decision as others here and the biggest drawback for me with all the available apps is lack of support for BeerXML files, as others have mentioned. My solution, although not ideal, was LogMeIn Ignition, which I had already purchased to access my computer while...

Should have searched harder. Looks like this was posted earlier from the DC Groupon, now it's on the Modesto Groupon. My bad... https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f16/dc-groupon-deal-50-off-beginners-kit-233235/

Homebrew Starter Kit, ingredient kit and $25 GC from Midwest for $64

Here's a decent price on Groupon for a starter kit from Midwest. Comes with the equipment kit, plus one ingredient kit and a gift certificate for $25. Oh, and don't forget the DVD and bottle opener! http://www.groupon.com/modesto/?utm_medium=afl&utm_campaign=4485850&utm_source=rvs

What setup would you get? Help a brewer get an automated system.

That is pretty exciting. What size system are you considering? Are you looking at electric or propane/natural gas? RIMS or HERMS? Do you already have a kegerator you're happy with? What about fermentation? If it were me, I would budget money for a nice brew system but also budget for a...

Build Blog: Single Tier Brew Stand

That's awesome. What kind of camera are you using? If you can document the rest of your build this well, you should definitely submit them to BYO or another brew mag when you're odne. They really do look great.

    Used Oak Cask Help

John said that the liquor that was aged in the barrels was not actually honey liquor. It was sugar liquor that was blended with some sort of honey spirit (possibly mead) to make honey liquor. So the spirit that was aged in the barrel was made with brown sugar, not honey. Not that it makes...

    Used Oak Cask Help

They were 5 gallon barrels for the ones that held sugar liquor and rum. He had one 10 gallon brandy barrel as well.

    Used Oak Cask Help

I imagine if you add whiskey, when you empty the barrel you will get a little bit of both the residual rum and whiskey. I'm not sure how long the original sugar liquor was in there, but since it was probably aged for a few months to a year, the sugar liquor will be the predominate flavor added...

    Used Oak Cask Help

Is the rum 40 proof or 40%? My guess is that 40% alcohol left in the barrel for 2-3 weeks will kill just about anything you should be worried about. 20% alcohol left for that long may even do the trick too. I also got my barrel yesterday and I put in a gallon of Evan Williams black label...

Source for 30 Gallon Kettles (20 Gallon Batches)

I know that many brewers use it without any problems, but I just couldn't bring myself to buy an aluminum pot. We decided just to add a 4th converted keg for the time being and use our old SQ14 burner in addition to the 3-burner stand. So back-to-back batches should work fine for doing 20...

Can you Brew It recipe for Stone Arrogant Bastard

When we brewed it we dry-hopped 5 gallons and left the other 5 alone. We tapped the dry-hopped first and it had more of the aroma and hop profile of a fresh bottle of the original. The non dry-hopped was too heavy on the malty sweetness so we ended up dry-hopping the second 5 gallons as well...

Source for 30 Gallon Kettles (20 Gallon Batches)

Other than being Aluminum, the Sam's Club pots seem like the best deal. 30 gallon pot for $140 is hard to pass up. Does anyone know the diameter of the 120 qt? On a somewhat related note, for those of you using the Stout tanks, do you use Tri Clamp fittings on all your equipment? One of the...

Source for 30 Gallon Kettles (20 Gallon Batches)

The 25 gallon is a pretty decent price but for a 20 gallon boil we'd need a 30-40 gallon pot. I guess splitting it up into 2 vessels isn't out of the question, just a little inconvenient.

Source for 30 Gallon Kettles (20 Gallon Batches)

I was wondering if anyone had a source for reasonably priced 30-40 gallon kettles. I've seen the ones from Stout tanks and they are nice, but a little out of our price range. I'm sure there are other 20 gallon brewers out there, so what do you guys use?

Trying to find post on Awesome brewery build

I think you're talking about Wayne's stand: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f51/brewstand-build-finished-1st-brew-today-117290/ He's the one who worked for Blue Moon, among others, and has posted a Blue Moon clone recipe. His stand is pretty incredible.
