    A meh brewday

I had about a 55% efficiency on my first AG wheat. I'm drinking it right now and it tastes great, just not the alcoholic kick I was hoping for. I had 4# of Wheat malt and 4# of 2 row. Similar situation I guess. The next day I hit 70% no problem with an IIPA. Glad to hear it wasn't all me. Blame...

    I Mashed. Therefore, I am.

Looks good! I love that insulation block idea, that is awesome. That is now my next addition to my growing pile of equipment. Looks like some styrofoam wrapped in a garbage sack with a handle...is that right? (Looks better than it sounds though)

Best beginner kegging system for around $200.

The instructions for the midwest kit says they use a caustic cleaner to get the old soda off of the inside. It says you need to rinse them well or you will experience a sweet taste in your next beer from the cleaner.

Best beginner kegging system for around $200.

I sprayed them out with hot water for awhile. then filled them with oxiclean and hot water. pressurized and shook them like hell. Drained, rinsed, and mixed up some starsan. Filled with starsan, pressurized, pumped it through the lines, shook up the keg and dumped the excess. I thought they were...

Best beginner kegging system for around $200.

Just got my Midwest kit two days ago. I'm force carbing my first beer right now, should be ready tomorrow night. I'm impressed with the setup. I can tell the regulator isn't of the highest quality, but it works great so I can't complain. Both kegs seal up very well, but both were slightly...

    Clear Glass Bottles?

Check out the video from basic brewing, they did a skunking test. Convinced me! Basic Brewing™ : Home Brewing Beer Podcast and DVD - September 14, 2007 - Skunking Beer But again, not all homebrew drinks will skunk...I bottled my apfelwein in clear glass.

new kegging system and kegerator setup! good and bad

There don't appear to be any obvious kinks. But I would be willing to bet it changed the diameter of the tube which may be causing the hissing. It's still working fine today, but still noisy. It's been sitting for about 4 weeks after I transported it, so I'm sure the oil has settled. Thanks...

new kegging system and kegerator setup! good and bad

that's reassuring to hear. I transported it on it's side as well, so maybe that is the cause. I gave it enough time for the oil to settle I thought but I didn't realize it would make noise!

new kegging system and kegerator setup! good and bad

Well I'm finally done with bottling. What a relief. I bought the brew logic two keg system from midwest and got it yesterday. Got a tank filled today on my way to work. Tonight I hooked everything up, santized my keg, and put it into my GE 4.3cf modified kegerator. So that's all the good...

The link provided doesn't take you to the product. I assume you are referring to the 5 gallon bottles. How much was shipping?

Mini fridge with freezer compartment help

I like the idea of doubling the space. Can you post pics of that and some details? How well is it keeping temps?

Using a pasta maker to mill grain.

Well I just ran another 18.5lbs through mine today. The only thing that died was my cordless drill battery (on my second one already). So I went to find the cheapest drill possible, in the middle of my grain bill of course. Got a cheapie $20 drill at Schucks Auto Supply that spins a minimum of...

Is the debate over the extra siphon effect or hot side aeration?

Mini fridge with freezer compartment help

I bent back the freezer part on a small GE fridge as well. The paint on the line cracked when I bent it and I thought for sure I had cracked the coolant line. Everything works though. The hardest part was getting the edges away from the plastic lining in the fridge. I used pliers and a long...

I want to build a kegerator

The description says it has a small freezer. It may need to be "bent" back against the back of the fridge to clear the top of the kegs.

My first All Grain Brew w/ lots of pictures

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm brewing an Imperial IPA right now. So I will try a longer hose on my MLT and try to siphon as well.

My first All Grain Brew w/ lots of pictures

Apparently 18 pictures is too much in one post... so I continue My patented two tier setup. My next project is a 2x4 brewstand. This sucked. Weighing hops, orange peel, and coriander. So I saw the hotbreak coming and turned to get the camera. By the time I get back there was plenty of...

My first All Grain Brew w/ lots of pictures

Well I've only been brewing since February, but I am addicted now. I started with a basic kit for extract brews but quickly outgrew it. My first one sucked, and it was apparent my equipment was lacking. So I ordered some copper pipe to build an immersion chiller and moved outdoors with a...
