    Oatmeal Stout

Im sorry excuse my noobiness, so what you guys are sayin is you need to steep the oats along with the other grains at the same time, or a partial boil of the oats by themselves? Im gonna be doing a similar brew this Friday, glad I stumbled across this thread. Cheers, Scott.

Hello everybody. I have a few questions concerning this dry stout recipe I got from my LHBS, I should of asked him while I was there but did not come to mind at the time, plus i like a couple different opinions on certain issues, anyway. So, my recipe calls for a 6gl boil, can i do a 3gl boil...

    LME to DME

why decrease the weight of the DME to 7lbs from 8.5lbs?
  6. S

    LME to DME

I have a recipe that calls for 8.5lbs of light LME, I have extra light DME from a previous batch. Will substituting the LME for DME result in any off flavor or color? The batch I wanna make is a Dogfish Head clone 60min IPA.

    Any sanitizing wipes out there?

I would like to know if any of you use sanitizing wipes, and if you do what kind. I think it would be convienent to use since I dont feel like making a 5gl. batch of star san just to clean my hrdrometer when checking readings. Anyone?

A 5gl. bucket with just an air lock when making a Hefe Weizen? Your asking for a mess.

To strain or not to strain.

Gonna be brewing a Hefe Weizen today, and have all the necessary equipment this time( see other post, "what a failure") I was wondering how many of you actually strain the wort when pouring into your primary, my recipe calls for it, looking for opinions on this. And as far as other brews go does...

    What a failure.

Well hopefully this thread will help someone else in the future on what to do in case of a blow out.
  17. S

    What a failure.

Yes I will def. use a blow off tube for the next batch. After searching "blow off tube" I feel like an idiot because I could of saved that batch without a doubt. Oh well, live and learn! I will make the same batch in a couple of days. What a *******!!!

    What a failure.

So I brewed my first batch today.

I brewed a Wheat beer, a Weihenstephaner clone, everything went as expected except for the cooling process, I have to change something there. I didnt think it would take as long as it did in the bath tub ice bath. Next time I will use the kitchen sink, less volume= cooler temps, should of...
