    Alabama vote.

It's pretty much a "don't make a big deal out of it, and it's not a big deal" sort of thing. As in, don't sell it, don't flaunt it, that sort of thing. ABC enforcement has better things to do than bust into people's homes who are making beer to drink themselves. That said... There was a...

Not true. It could get on the SOC, but they never get to it.

I know they are negotiating right now about something to do with court costs in the budget. I didn't hear anything about that...

I'd like to submit shrimp & grits as the quintessential Alabama dish. Represents our gulf seafood and our old south cuisine.

I'm having flashbacks to bingo debates in 2008... Yes. Yes, I do.

Done with immigration bill - sounds like they're about to go to conference.

    Alabama vote.

It's not passed yet. And there are apparently some folks willing to filibuster it to try to prevent it (and willing to let other bills die as a result). Or... They are using this as a time to try to hash some issues out so they can proceed. Let's hope for the latter.

I was away from my computer for a bit - sounds like someone asked for a reading of the immigration bill. Ugh. The bill is 84 pages long... edit: currently on page 13. 12:11 PM

First calendar is up; it's SR108. They're roll call voting it now - it passed. The only bill on it is the immigration bill HB658. So, I think we'll have to wait on that before we know anything else.

Based on previous audio, there are three calendars prepared for today. The first is leftover bills from Thursday plus 4 or 5 more bills. I have not seen them posted online, though. I think the best place to look is here. SR106 is the calendar from Thursday. There was also an urge to let Waggoner...

    Little baby mini-mash. With oats.

I'm converting this Blue Moon clone to extract. The sticky part is the oats (pun intended). How will I do that as easily as possible? Suppose I want to do a mini-mash, partial mash, whatever it's called, with a pound of flaked oats & a pound of 2-row. I'll be cracking the 2-row with a rolling...

Cider Aroma at Bottling - What Now?

Cool, thanks. I guess I'm just over reacting. I'll bet I'm the very first noob home brewer to do that, aren't I?

Cider Aroma at Bottling - What Now?

Been searching around, and found this. Yooper says, "Young beer sometimes smells a bit like green apples." I'm actually thinking that's probably what I was smelling - again, my sense of smell isn't the best. So, I guess I'll just give it a few weeks!

    Wb-06 no banana

I just bottled a hefe I brewed from a kit (Whiteley True Brew series Bavarian Hefeweizen) using WB-06. I noted a slight hint of banana in the aroma. But I didn't get any banana flavor in the little bit I tasted. (Actually, I tasted a cider flavor - I've got another thread going on for that...)

first brew day Good/Bad/Not much ugly

If you dropped the chiller in while the wort was boiling, I wouldn't sweat it. As for the hydrometer - at least it didn't shatter IN THE BEER! You've actually made it through the easy part. The hard part is waiting...

Cider Aroma at Bottling - What Now?

I bottled my first 5 gallon batch yesterday after 22 days in primary. It's a Bavarian hefeweisen LME kit brewed in all new equipment. About halfway through siphoning it to the bottling bucket, I started to notice a cidery smell. (Note: I have chronic rhinitis, so my sense of smell isn't the...
