    First all grain recipe ideas

Once you you pick the style (wheat or american ale), keep the grain bill and hops quite simple. You want to have a basis to compare the later brews. If you go really complicated from the start, it would be hard to see what you do/don't like. Keep the variables to a minmum. ie) 2-row plus a...

    DIY: 15 Minute Grain Mill

I think they may be from a assembly line roller. The thing that makes them good is the gnarl and the magnet that adds weight. The gnarl is about the same as you would find on a weight barbell. I don't know if a lighter, hollow tube that is smooth would produce good results. Here is the...

    DIY: 15 Minute Grain Mill

Thanks again. Sorry the grain pic is a little blury. Here is some details: The axle holder is in one photo. Correction, the part number from the last post is actually from Rona, not home depot. The green painting tape show were a 1/16" drill bit that measures the gap between the rollers...

    DIY: 15 Minute Grain Mill

Here is the Princess Auto Part #: 8033920 17.5 in X 2.5 in Magnetic rollers $8.91 ea. They are in the surplus section - maybe not in all stores as surplus may vary by region. I used this to hold the axles - form home depot: 232227 Tee nut-long prong. Basically a piece of metal that that...

    DIY: 15 Minute Grain Mill

Hello, I have been searching for all kinds of options for making or buying a grain mill. I make 10 G batches, so a corona mill didn't seem like a good option if I could not adjust the crush. And $180 seemed to much for a barley crusher type mill (not to mention customs and shipping). I made...

First all grain, in the fermenter

Congrats on the first AG ! I have done 3 so far...and still am learning about the equipment. Make sure you take some good notes as they will be very valuable next time. (and after)Software/tables/books can guide you, but everyone's set-up is different. I thought I made some very big...

    dry hopping. alternative to marbles?

I dryhopped for the first time on my current brew...and I will dryhop everytime from now on. I used pellets (1 oz). I didn't use a bag and had an autospyhon. The syphon didn't clog, and the amount of beer loss from seditment was minimal. I would use the same method again. Cheers.

    It's too sweet!

By the hydro readings...it looks like it is done..close to 76% attenuation which would be normal for a average ale. In that case, I would try the dry hopping if you had the time and was really concerned about the sweetness. The other thing is that the better will taste a little less sweet...

    It's too sweet!

Very true about the wort and the hops. Also, a strong hop aroma will cut the sweetness....of course it will not add to bitterness but here is the analogy: the old trick of cutting a small piece of onion and another of apple...if you hold your nose, you can't tell the difference. I made a 20...
