    Good Beer in San Diego

If you go over the bridge, or take the ferry, Coronado Brewery has good beer and food. Monday's are all night happy hour and Wednesdays are fish taco night.

Does anybody get the kids involved?

My 14 year old helps on bottling day, but my 18 year doesn't seem to care - too much work I guess.

So I am deciding between 3 kits...

I bought the Coopers kit because it came with everything (plus Craig made it look so easy). The good thing is the bottles are reusable and easy to cap. The fermentor is well made, marked with volume, really big so blow off has not been a problem, and the large opening means you don't have to...

Fist attempt at Cooper's European Lager...

don't add anything else. you have all the fermentables you need with the can and the BE2 pack. You should be about 4% or so with it the way it is.

Fist attempt at Cooper's European Lager...

The 1.7kg can is LME and fermentable. Your OG should be about 1.042. My first kit was the Cooper's English Bitter and I followed the same steps without a problem. My recomendation is to leave it in primary for 3 weeks instead of the 7 days the kit recommends - it will help.

    Easiest/Cheapest way to begin kegging

I ordered the 2 keg setup from keg connection for Christmas (when they were on sale and had free shipping) - great setup. Very easy, very quick, much better than bottling. I also searched around to find deals and found cornykeg.com has the cheapest pin locks so I picked up a couple extra from...

    3 ideas for stuck fermentation

Update - after sitting at 1.020 for about 10 days, it seemed to pick up fermentation again the past two days. I checked last night and it was sitting at 1.012. Weird how it started, took a few weeks vacation, then came back to work and finished. Now I'll wait a couple more weeks for it to...

    3 ideas for stuck fermentation

I decided to leave this alone and keg after 4-5 weeks to see if anything changed. It's been at about 68-70 degrees for the last 10 days and this morning while getting ready for work, I hear a lot of bubbles. I take off the towel and notice the lid is bulging again and there is a lot of CO2 in...

Vendors that ship to FPO address (Military Overseas)

Another option is to have it shipped to family or friends here and have them ship to the FPO address. We used to have things shipped to the command and have them forward to us, but we were direct support not PCS.

    3 ideas for stuck fermentation

Sorry, I was rushed this morning. It is the extract with specialty grains scottish 80 from Northern Brewer. Thanks for the advice and I'll leave it alone and check after another week. I hadn't read about the 1.020 curse - good to know.

    3 ideas for stuck fermentation

temps started at 67-68, dropped into upper 50's (cold spell in SOCAL). Started in my garage but moved into house and it warmed to 68.

    3 ideas for stuck fermentation

Thanks Revvy, but will there be a problem with the lack of CO2 to protect the brew since I took the top off and let it out when I stirred? bkn - not sure what the FG is supposed to be since it's not listed on the NB website or the instructions they sent. I would guess about 1.012.

    3 ideas for stuck fermentation

I brewed a NB Scottish 80 with S-33 yeast. SG was 1.051 and fermentation went well for the first 3 days. After that the temps dropped and I'm pretty sure fermentation is stuck - been 1.020 for the past week. I've tried swirling and stirring the yeast back up - no change. My 3 ideas are...

Uncrushed roasted barley in Irish Stout

That's kind of what I figured. I tasted a sample from the hydrometer last week and it was good, just not a stout. Thanks!

Uncrushed roasted barley in Irish Stout

I made a batch of NB Dry Irish Stout and didn't realize until it was too late that the roasted barley was not crushed. I made it according to the kit (with UNcrushed barley) and obviously it is much lighter in color than a stout. My question is how will the uncrushed specialty grains impact...

    First Brew Recipe Question

If you have the Coopers Real Ale kit, all you need to do is - clean and sanitize everything - warm the can (easier to get extract out), - mix extract with boiled water - mix in the DME (slowly and stirring quite a bit - very clumpy/sticky) - top off with cold water to the 5 gallon mark. -...

Brewing Coopers American Ale with dark brown sugar

I'm guessing that the kit included the 1.7 kg can of prehopped malt extract. Then just add the 1 lb of DME, some water, and pitch the yeast. Coopers usually makes 23 L ~ 5 imperial gallons.

    Just getting started

Hey folks, I'm just getting started in home brewing and thought this site looked extremely helpful! I've wanted to try for a while now but being military, free time has been tough to come by lately. I've traveled all over the world and tried many beers - now to see if I can brew...
