what was your most dumb move in brewing?

I was fabricating a hook out of a wire clothes hanger. I was doing this to hang my floating thermometer to the side of my brew kettle for quick reading. I bent up the end for the thermometer and sized it up to fit for the kettle and made the next cut. Turns out I wasn't holding on to the...

    What happed to Guinness?

You can still reuse the bottle. The widget is relatively easy to remove with a pair of needlenose pliers. It would be interesting to see what the new beer would do with a used widget as another place for bubbles to form, like the etched bottom of a Boston Lager glass. My only fear is that it...

    What happed to Guinness?

I've tried Guiness 3 times in the past and haven't been able to finish it ever. I found it far too flat and far to watery tasting - even when my beer of choice was Bud Light. I had a Young's Double Chocolate Stout a few weeks ago. The carbonation was similar, but it definitely had the flavor...

    ranger ipa...

From what I understand, IPAs were originally produced because Pale Ales were spoiling during transport, and the extra hops helped preserve the beer for a longer trip. This was during the wooden barrel days before refrigeration.

    ranger ipa...

I've found ranger to be one of the more palatable IPAs I've had. Lagunitas seemed to blow me away with the hoppiness it had, but I really enjoyed it. You may try IPA from Southern Tier. I thought it was way too malty, but it may be more palatable for you.

    Incorrect volumetrics /facepalm

I would probably add some water if it was me. Rogue mocha porter isn't really a beer that lacks flavor and body to begin with. Would it be ok to let it completely ferment and add water before bottling if it isn't drinkable? It would be interesting to see how it turns out...

    A sour nut brown??? Help!

I saw your name and where your from and was hoping to tell you to Relax Don't Worry and Drink a Saluki Dunkeldog, but this seems urgent. Did you take gravity readings throughout the process?

poured wort on sanitizer solution - HELP!

The reason I brew my own beer is to make a quality product cheaper than I can buy it. If someone gave you a beer and told you 1/5 of it was cleansing solution, you would (should) dump it out in front of their face. You need to do the same to your batch, fermenting or not. I've brewed three...

Taking a "clone" to a brewing competition...

I've wanted to develop my own recipe for a while now. I found it intimidating because I had the feeling that no matter what concoction, or off the wall ingredient I chose, that it had been done before in the past and it wouldn't be "mine". I have renewed faith in making a recipe after reading...

    Disassembling a spigot - Mold

Did my third batch, a Brewer's Best Robust Porter, and I thought that I HAD to do a secondary fermentation. Therefore, I did my primary fermentation in my bottling bucket. Now I am having some mold issues inside the spigot and it has some funky smells. I know this is from inadequate cleaning...
