over carbination and slightly sweet taste

You are supposed to boil usually in a cup of water for 5 minutes. Allow to cool off covered with sterilized lid on top. I then put in bottling bucket and rack beer over on top of it. The key with the boling is o keep what you are putting in sanitary and the sugar is also well dissolved. Ryan

    Question about sediment...

That is a lot of sediment in the bottom of the bottle. How long did you wait to bottle and did you rack over to a secondary? When you rack to secondary or bottling bucket you should try to leave the sediment sludge at the bottom behind. Every time you rack you'll lose a little bit. Ryan

    What are you drinking now?

I'd take a picture but it's almost gone. I bottled Blood Orange Lemon Coriander Weiss to 27 total 22oz. Bottles tonight. I had a pint left over that I chilled down and I am enjoying it uncarbonated. Pretty good right now and I know in 1 month it will be great and 2 months it should be awesome...

Filtering Lemon, Blood Orange zest when racking to bottle

I stopped by Midwest today and finally got the solution. Racking cane steel mesh filter. I had to pick up a stainless steel racking cane to work with it and a plastic thing to use it on a carboy but I'm glad I've got a solution to use this time and in the future. So the answer is a stainless...

Filtering Lemon, Blood Orange zest when racking to bottle

I've usually used my racking cane to bottle and not the spigot on the bucket. I just rack over for bottling into a primary fermenter bucket and then attach a shorter tube with the bottle filler. What you said sounds like a good second way to filter it before going into bottle.

Filtering Lemon, Blood Orange zest when racking to bottle

Added lemon zest and blood orange zest 2 weeks ago when I put the beer into secondary. My understanding was that it should fall out down to the bottom and I could just rack carefully and wouldn't need to filter. A lot of zest still seems to be suspended and on the top. Any suggestions of how to...

Used grain ideas- what to do with it???

I've tried to feed it to the birds thinking they would eat it but they don't seem to actually eat it. You'd think they would love it!

I also am set up 1st time with a swamp cooler set up but I've got an aquarium heater in it with a small water pump just to move the water a little bit. Trying to hold 70 degrees and then I'll...

Has anyone brewed "ginger saison" from extreme brewing?

I'm thinking pretty hard about making the ginger saison as my forth batch of beer I'll brew. It would be the 1st non kit beer for me though so I'm a little nervous about it. Nice to read the thread and hear good reviews on the recipe. I can't imagine the author putting a bad recipe in the book...

what size boil do you do for extract?

I've thought about increasing my boil size when I do kits. I like having space to add water and I add store bought meaning clean bagged ice to top off the water with to near 5 gallons. When I add ice into the pot and put it into an ice bath I can get the wort cooled down pretty quick! I would...
