Bells Two Hearted IPA, Soapy taste

You were probably spot on - you likely are one of those that taste these hops that way. My brother has always declared that Two Hearted tastes like flowery soap. It is what it is, some people like cilantro, others despise. Some people taste the sulfer of asparagus, others cannot. Why would hops...

Brewing for a wedding... ideas on selection?

I used a 20 lb CO2 tank, with a regular 2 gauge regulator, and a homemade 4 way splitter for 4 gas lines. We used plain old picnic taps to pour. A couple of walmart plastic storage tubs to hold kegs and poured in ice around them. Simple. In my case, I have long ago gone to floating dip tubes...

Brewing for a wedding... ideas on selection?

I was in your spot once. We went with a sweeter hard cider by request of the bride, a cream ale ( Originally this was going to be an american lager, but after they tasted the Cream ale they chose it as their fizzy yellow beer choice. We made more of this than any other style because there are...

    Plum porter recipe help please

I could suggest a somewhat unscientific stab in the dark for a start if you like, Use 1.5 lb flake barley 1 lb C60 .5 lb Chocolate .5 lb Carafa III Then use enough 2 row of your choice to get you to 8 or 8.5 ABV using something like beer smith to calculate. I don't know your system or typical...

Same pre boil reading every time.

How's the finished beer? Does it perform its two primary missions in life? Good flavors, and intoxicating properties? You could always get another hydrometer or refractometer and compare - They are pretty cheap.

What is the best serving temp for a barleywine?

The correct temp for barley wine is the temp that TASTES BEST TO YOU. Warm, cold, cellar, hot - don't matter as long as YOU LIKE IT. And yes, cold muting the flavors is normal.

How my brews landed me in the ER

I remember this thread! I always wondered how everyone forgot about hefeweizen when they were worrying about drinking beer yeast? I rocked a lot of bottles of hefe to stir things up before pouring without suffering ill effects. Bet i ain't alone

Best beer you can't make again?

I brew a Dortmunder, I have brewed it many times. Simple: Pilsner, some Vienna, some Munich. Golden clear yummy. I went to the LHBS and handed the counter guy my grain bill, while I went back and partook at the on site nano brewery. Next day I proceeded as normal until I began to vorluf the...

    Brew Day Simplification Plan

I have allowed the trub to settle, and drained the clear wort off leaving the gunk in the bottom of the kettle. I have dumped the whole shooting match trub and all right in the fermenter. Happy beer both way . . . .

    Irish Stout Ó Flannagáin Standard

SO, I have brewed this beer a couple of times. I never really saw it as a stout so much as a slightly roasty black ale. NO MATTER, it is a damn good beer!!! But as of today i think it is my favorite home brew by far. Many of you know my family recently lost everything in a fire. House...
