    toasted coconut

Did you toast or do anything to them? or just straight from store bag to grain bag & in beer? I'm currently fascinated by south Pacific hops (New Zealand), & think a combo all New Zealand hopped coconut ale would be some tropical goodness in the middle of this Michigan winter.

    Drank the airlock water...

I use whiskey in my airlocks, & drink it. Started after seeing Chip using it on BrewingTV.

How do I know when my cider is done? And what to do?

I've made lots of wines & ciders, just let it sit man. Really no such thing as to long for these (unlike beer). With wines & ciders I just bottle whenever I get around to it, last years sat in the carboy from September till March before I finally felt like bottling it. This years sat about 8...

    The Walking dead

Totally man, don't see why they wouldn't just take the the farm. Although the show is called the WALKING dead, so they best get walking. Farm life is definitely stagnating, I'm sure they'll move on for whatever reason soon (I have not read the books, but I'm fairly confident we don't just...

    Couple lagering options, downsides?

Thanks man, I'll be using NB's schwartzbier kit whose instructions say 4 weeks secondary (I believe, at work now so it's not right in front of me). Sooooooo. . . roughly 6 weeks in same vessel cool?

    Couple lagering options, downsides?

I have 2 3gallon carboys open & would like to try a schwartzbier. What I'd like to do is split the wort right after cooling, pitch separate yeast into each one (maybe even a different yeast in each), & do primary then move carboys to "lagering cave" to lager in original vessels. Any...

    The Walking dead

Pretty sure it's Merles bike that Daryl's riding, that plus the fact that his name has come up in every ep this season, makes me think they're setting us up for a horrific return of Merle(sp?) Daryl's quickly becoming my favorite character, totally practical, would definitly want a guy like...

    Bottle conditioning at lower temperatures

Sweet ideas with the freezers & coolers, might give that a shot. Would like to be drinking these & starting a holiday batch in time for . . .well the holidays. Thanks!

    Bottle conditioning at lower temperatures

Thanks for the reply, sounds good. Fermentation seems very active right now, so hopefully yeast is happy at 60 degrees. Looks like your in Michigan also & a Reverend who's a Lovecraft fan? Awesome!

    Bottle conditioning at lower temperatures

Hello, tried a search & found threads about higher temperatures, not any concerning temps lower than say 60. I keep my house set at about 60 throughout the cold months, which are long here in northern Michigan, & plan on brewing quite a bit this winter. Anywhoo. . I've got my first batch...
