    Carboy VS. Thumb

Man, so is leaving sanitizing solution in the carboy for an extended period of time not recommended? I have carried mine and moved it around so much... I feel fortunate now that i haven't had this happen to me... I have one better bottle and two old "mexican" ribbed glass carboys... Geez-us i...

Wort Chiller sweating into my wort

Yeah didn't think so but it always made me think... The ears do come out the top of my brew pot and curve down slightly... But the ends that stick out just above my wort and bot over the sides do condensate.... When i brew in the middle of winter its worse.. When the water basically comes out...

Verify CO2 gauge and other CO2 woes

I also think that if you put the whole setup in a fridge (like i did) that also affects the gauge and the regulator. I usually just go by what the gauge says... i havent seen a noticable difference +/- whatever the gauge is saying. As for the faster pours... why? I enjoy watching my beer fill...

Wort Chiller sweating into my wort

I use a 25' X 3/8" copper IC to cool down my wort and i notice that the "ears" coming out seem to sweat on the outside from the steam/cold walter combination. I sanitize it by allowing it to rest in the wort the...

This just happened to me on an all pale ale i'm brewing. I tightened up the plates on my corona mill i just got and was testing different milling sizes. I too was at 92% efficiency. Its still in the primary so hopefully no tannins. I just cant get the flow identical on the fly sparging. My...

The Only Benefit of a Refractometer

Yeah... I like using it... and your probably spot on by saying its better used for SG... I have done so as well it allows you to adjust on the fly since its instant so if you need to add a little dme you can decide sooner. I suppose it was the post ferment with the alcohol correction you need...

The Only Benefit of a Refractometer

I've been using one since december... and the only reason i would guess to use it is so you dont need to pull out 3-4 oz. of beer each time you want to take a Gravity Reading? only a coulple drops. Is it worth the hassle? You have to take the sample and get it to ambient temp of the...
