What's the worst craft brew (commercial) you've had?

One thing I'm noticing is a ton of preference, not as much on quality. Not a bad thing or a good thing, just an observation. For me, my lowest grade at this point would have to go to Cricket Hill, as their commercial stuff tastes to me like my very first batch of homebrew, where among other...

    Rogue Maple Bacon ale

This one falls into that category of either you really liked it or couldn't drink it. I was in the latter category... only Rogue I've ever dumped. To me, the bacon was lost amidst the overabundant smoke, and the maple's aspects were a bit too medicinal. Burnt maple ashtray. To be fair, while...

    Selling homebrew through local pub

Duboman certainly laid it out. I have been thinking a good while about the prospects of going pro and a large part of that involves studying the legal hurdles that lie ahead, of which there are quite a few. I would strongly urge your friend to research the federal rules involving alcohol sales...

    Vacuum Sealer & Bags?

That's very cool. Alternatively, do the Rival accessories fit the foodsaver equipment, to your knowledge?

    Vacuum Sealer & Bags?

Looks like I'm a bit late to this party, but for anyone who stumbles this way in the future, the Foodsaver is worth it. I grow my own hops and this allows me to save them for quite a while. Also, using the hose attachment allows for super quick degassing of wine without introducing oxygen like...

Have you tried mead before, even commercially?

Show us your Mead in a photo!!!

Honey was wildflower, and then we made a puree using raspberries, strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, and cherries (it was a little bit flying by the seat of the pants, so unfortunately I don't have specific data to share) and put it directly the primary. Fermentation was explosive for a...

    My new venture

Never been to Ireland but now have one more reason to go. Lovely looking establishment! So what are the hurdles like there as far as being able to sell your own product? I've heard something about low abv limits on commercial stuff, too, is that still alive?

A from-scratch bumbleberry mead that just got bottled yesterday. Samples were, um... well let's just say it's a miracle there's any left.

    DIY Cost-Effective Immersion Wort Chiller

After my first homebrew batch took forever to chill (someone forgot to make/get enough ice for an ice bath...), I went ahead and made one of these. If you have ANY diy talent, it's simple and will save a buck for sure. As someone pointed out above, stirring gently, but constantly will rapidly...

    Breweries you've Visited/Toured?

Quite a few, but the top ten would have to be (in order) 1. Dogfish Head - I've made this trip a half a dozen times and wish I could go every week... both pub and production brewery. 2. Magic Hat - it's like Halloween, Mardi Gras, and Willy Wonka's factory all rolled up in one - with beer 3...

    Dogfish Head Sixty-One

Yeah, I saw that too. Hopefully Hunterdon will have that our way pretty soon.

    Dream LHBS

Organization is a major concern. There should be a logical grouping of things in your showroom to make things easy to find. While I love to see a place with one of everything on display, this can be a financial challenge. A way around this, which I do not see at my LHBSs, is to have catalogs...

    Victoria grain mill cabinet build

Good to know. I'm thinking an antique barn pulley would likely do the trick. Maybe with a fresh coat of red vintage farm implement paint.

    Victoria grain mill cabinet build

Thanks all. And if you notice the off-centered nature of where the mill is mounted, I left myself room for a motor to be mounted in the future. I haven't done the research yet to find out what motors people favor for these units, but I knew I wanted one. That pulley will happen!
