    Post your brew view!

Very cool. I might have to look in to something like that.

    Post your brew view!

What is that you are brewing on? Grill? Can you achieve a pretty quick boil on it?

Autumn Seasonal Beer Thunderstruck Pumpkin Ale (AG and Extract versions)

Your extract recipe says 30oz canned pumpkin for 5 gallons and your AG says 60oz for 5 gallons. I am looking to do an extract variation and am wondering if I should stick with the 30oz. Thanks!

How long to leave h2o/vinegar solution in carboy

Yeah, vinegar is definitely cheaper and my secondary is crystal clean. I think if I let the Oxyclean soak for no longer than 24hrs, then vinegar is the way to go.

How long to leave h2o/vinegar solution in carboy

Well the solution worked wonders on both my glass carboys. I had to use my carboy brush on the bottom of the primary to get rid of the white spots that remained. I had trouble getting off a couple of the spots and I now have it soaking in a StarSan solution.

How long to leave h2o/vinegar solution in carboy

It is distilled white vinegar. I tried rinsing, shaking & using a brush, but the white residue seems to be on there pretty good.

How long to leave h2o/vinegar solution in carboy

I filled my 6.5 gal carboy with 1oz of Oxyclean Free and water and let it sit for 1 week. I also put 1oz of Oxyclean in my 5 gal secondary for 24hrs. Both have the dreaded oxyclean residue. I found a thread on here that suggested filling my carboys with a vinegar (3oz) and water solution to...

Newbie question about cost effective brewing

If you are not in a hurry to jump right in, I would check out Craigslist. I searched Craigslist for a month and found my equipment kit for 60 bucks at a garage sale. Got all the basic kit stuff, 6.5g glass carboy, 5g glass secondary and a homemade fermentation box with temp control. If you...

    Beersmith vs. Online Calcs

That makes sense. I did not realize that there were 3 different accepted algorithms for determining bitterness. I am not sure what BeerCalculus uses, but I looked at TastyBrew and they also use Tinseth. I just tried their bitterness calculator and it was in the same range as Beersmith...

Storing a sixer for 5 months

This is a problem I wish I had! Just brewed my 4th batch yesterday, so I am still trying to build up a reserve.

Storing a sixer for 5 months

I don't have to store for five months. I just want to see how a sixer will tastes 5 months down the line. The rest is almost gone. Frig it is! Thanks! :ban:

Storing a sixer for 5 months

Can anyone help me out on this? I have read some posts about people storing beer in their wine cellar, but I don't have that option. Just really wondering if 80 degrees or the refrigerator (after 21 days of conditioning) is the better option. Thanks!

    Beersmith vs. Online Calcs

I downloaded Beersmith and have been trying it out. I have noticed the amount of hops needed to meet a specific style is dependent on the boil volume. I have formulated the same recipe on Beersmith, TastyBrew's Calc & BeerCalculus. When I change the boil volume on each to 2 gallons, they...

Storing a sixer for 5 months

I am saving a sixer of my first brew, a BB American Amber Ale, for 5 months. It has been sitting at around 80 degrees for 5 weeks. Unfortunately, I live in the desert and don't really want to turn my AC down any further. Should I let it sit at room temp for the rest of the 5 months or would...

Wheat beer - prime w/ corn sugar?

I got a wheat beer kit from my LHBS. It is their own kit and the recipe does not specify what to use for priming. I bought my equipment kit used, and the guy had a bag of corn sugar from the LHBS. Does it matter what I prime with? Considering it is a wheat beer, would corn sugar be...

    Homebrew shops in Phoenix

It would not have bothered me at all if he said he was busy in the back and he would be opening up in a few minutes. But this guy was trying to run some sort of power trip. It sucks because I'm in that area twice a week. Oh well... I've heard What Ales Ya is really nice. But your right...

    Homebrew shops in Phoenix

I pulled up to the Homebrew Depot this morning and they had their closed sign up. It was 11am, so I walked up to the door and peaked in. This guy, inside the shop, walked up to the door, unlocked it, and asked if he could help me. I asked if they were opening and he pointed at his hours and...

When to take a hydrometer reading

The gravity reading was 1.012 and the recipes range was 1.010-1.014. So I racked it to the secondary. I tried out the beer and it was flat and warm, but tasted pretty good. It did seem to have a little bit of a funny taste, but I am guessing that was due to it being green. On a side...

When to take a hydrometer reading

Thanks for the responses! I am going to take a reading. Hopefully, the beer's FG will line up with the recipes and I can rack to the secondary.
