    Coopers Kits

The Coopers kits he is talking about are prehopped extract kits, they are the most common form of homebrewing in the UK but do not seem widely used in the US. These kits give a pretty good quality of beer but it will still not be comercial quality. I have made a few of the Coopers kits...

What temp is safe to aerate?

Well it finally hit 38C so I started pouring it from the boiler into the primary, but the tap got blocked with hops so I had to do a big pour to get the rest into my primary. Lol this is alot harder than using pre-hopped kits! At least after the giant pour I dont need to worry about extra...

What temp is safe to aerate?

This is my first boiling brew and I boiled about 15L, then added 8L of pre boiled water that had been cooling, though it was still warm. I am trying the ice bath thing but my boiler is a BruHeat electric boiler and as it has simmerstats and plug attatchments on the outside I am not very happy...

What temp is safe to aerate?

Thanks for the quick reply! It seems to be taking forever to cool, guess I need to go get a wort chiller as well!

What temp is safe to aerate?

Just a quick question as have almost completed my first extract boil, I have only used prehopped extract kits before now. I am trying to cool my wort so I can transfer it to the primary and pitch my yeast, I know it needs to be 20-25C for the yeast but what temp is acceptable for splashing it...

    My 2 Newest Labels!

Unfortunately I could not get the Stout Label to print as the red was way to bright for my printer and the black was bleeding into it badly as well, so had to quickly make another one! Alot of people actually prefered the new one but I can't quite decide...

    A few tap handle labels

They are awesome! I love it when people carry a theme through there labels and I have to say that the tough guy series is a great idea! I hope you won't be offended if I ever steal it! I love the idea of making bar tap labels rather than bottle ones, another reason why I need to hurry up and...

    New label

That is really sweet man! That picture is really well integrated into the label. The toe may hurt but you have a great name and story as a result, you should start breaking a different bone every time you brew to keep the theme going! :p

    BTB Christmas Time Ale

I like the idea of adding a star to the tree, it should be a really lame star though, add sat as if it has just been dumped on top! I love the christmas balls, took me a second to see them!

    Brewing equipment in Europe

Hi there, I have bought from a few UK stores so far, I have used Hop and Grape mentioned above, I have also used http://www.art-of-brewing.co.uk and http://www.arkwrightshomebrew.com/ all 3 where really good, fast delivery and no problems with the orders. I have found it difficult to...

    Plastic bottles?

Almost all my beer is in plastic 1L bottles, they are easy to clean and totally reusable, as mentioned you are best to store them in the dark but as I store all my stuff in the dark anyway this is not a problem for me!

    Hydrometer Readings

Thanks again guys! Great to have the benefit of all your knowledge! Plus I am now happy my latest batch isn't borked! :mug:

    Hydrometer Readings

The hydrometer has 2 coloured bars marked on it, the first is marked for Beer Start and is from 1.03-1.06. The other is for Bottle and it is from 0.996-1.006. Obviously this new beer being outwith this zone I was a bit worried that it had not fully fermented, it did not react as much as my...

    Hydrometer Readings

Hi guys, hope you can help me with a hydrometer question and hopefully avoid some bottle bombs! My latest batch is a John Bull Master Class - India Pale Ale. This is a 3kg all malt exctact kit that you do not need to add any extra sugars or anything too. My O.G. was 1.040, which i thought...

    Different Sugar Names

Hey orac, are you making canned kits like Coopers or Muntons? Most of us from the UK seem to be making these rather than the boiling kits the Americans use. If you are, try to get a pack of the Muntons beer kit Enhancer, it is a 1kg pack of mixed spray malts and you can add it to any beer kit...

Lid on top of fermenting bucket

All the brews I have made so far have been in a food grade bucket with a lid that I do not fully clip down. It has no airlock so would explode if I closed it down fully. I learned this on my first attempt, thankfully I was so excited that I checked it every 5 mins and saw the lid and bucket...

    1st Beer Blues

The canned hopped extract kits are almost all thats available in the UK and are what almost everyone over here starts on. While I have no doubt that boiling/unhopped extract and other ingrediants will produce much better beer I have produced some pretty good stuff from the canned kits, and...
