Sour Stout! Tried and true recipes

I threw my ToD in the fridge last night. Will do a tasting of both tonight and actually take notes and report back.

Sour Stout! Tried and true recipes

This is a recipe I did recently. I like it a lot. Picked up a ToD recently and am going to do a side by side. I wasn’t trying for a clone but similar style. Will definitely brew again. The “lambic #1” was collected from a lambic style batch I did. It’s base was Wyeast 3278 with dregs of:

Boil kettle condenser - no overhead ventilation needed

From what dockside has reported at 60 psi pressure and a 6 gph nozzle getting 205F condensate, that would mean a 6 gph is slightly more than he needs to condense the steam coming from the boil (if it was exactly matched it would be near 212F). So at 60 psi, 6 gph nozzle is sufficient, but a 9...

Boil kettle condenser - no overhead ventilation needed

No problem. Those all look right. Especially since you used the right flow rates. :D

Boil kettle condenser - no overhead ventilation needed

It’s not exact but you can approximate by using a flow coefficient (Cv). Cv=GPM/sqrt(dP). For the 6 gph version at 40 psi: 6 gph=0.1 gpm, 40 psi is the pressure drop at that flow since it discharges at atmospheric pressure. So Cv=0.1/sqrt(40)—>Cv=.0158. Then if you apply your house pressure to...

Two beers from one boil - BIAB

Hard to follow 55x11’s detailed responses (all great ideas by the way), I’ve also been doing this recently. I really like taking styles with semi-similar grain bills and just using different yeasts. Just recently I did a Scotch Ale and a Dark Belgian Strong from the same wort. The Dark Belgian...

First time cider- "Even stink would say that stinks."

You can use campden tablets and still avoid the sulfur smell and taste. You just need to add yeast nutrient as Yooper alluded to earlier. For cider I normally just use DAP (diammonium phosphate). You can get it at your homebrew shop. Cider doesn’t have all of the necessary nutrients for the...

Oregon 1/2 bbl electric setup, kegging, bottling gear

I’m nowhere close to buy them but it looks like those are concord kettles and I was wondering how you liked the mash tun false bottom on those. I have a 20 gallon concord for a BK but was contemplating one for a mash tun as well. Looks like a great set-up. Good luck with the sale. Thanks. -Zach

Too much bourbon in barrel-aged stout

You could brew the same batch and blend the two beers. But might as well taste it first.

Do you have any size/material/photos of the mash tun?

Ohio 2 head bottle filling system with vacuum & purge. ($300)

I haven't bottled in a long time but I just wanted to say that is seriously cool. It made me think about bottling again just to try it out. I hope you find a good home for it!

    Illinois 20 Gallon Megapot

Thanks. Yeah I normally don't swing through that area so not going to work for me. Great deal for somebody though! Good luck with the sale!
