    Rumbullion?

Definitely recorded something wrong.... I'm assuming it was either 1.165 or 1.065. Guess I won't know unless I try again...... :(

    Rumbullion?

I have a laser/infrared temperature gauge. I pointed it at all of my carboys yesterday and they ranged from 65-67 degrees. When I took my OG it was 1.605. I'm assuming I did something wrong... Maybe it was 1.065. I'm going to have to check because I'm thinking my hydrometer doesn't even read...

    Banana short mead

Thanks! I went ahead and mashed 4lbs of peeled bananas. I boiled for 20 minutes in 3/4 gallon of water. I also had raw honey so I boiled it along with the bananas. I then added the orange juice to the Carboy, poured my boiled (but cooled) liquid in, added half if the boiled bananas and barely...

    Banana short mead

A couple questions: Could I just mash bananas instead of freezing them? Could I use orange concentrate instead of oj?

    Rumbullion?

I don't know the exact temp but it's in my basement in a bathroom we don't use. My thermostat is set to 72 degrees upstairs.

    Rumbullion?

Honestly, I used six lbs of brown sugar and only a cup of honey. I added some molasses but can't give you the quantity without checking the weight. I also used regular cooking yeast for this. I know I know... I'm going to continue to experiment with it and try d-47 next time. Maybe more honey...

Show us your Mead in a photo!!!

My blueberry mead, mention from previous posts. It's been a month and I racked it and added 5 lbs of honey, per the recipe. It also calls for 5lbs more of blueberries. I have to stop and get some tomorrow.

    Rumbullion?

Well, its ferment for a month as of today. I racked it into 2 1 gallon carboys and sampled a little. Just smelling it I could feel the alcohol burn my nostrils. It didn't have a great taste but it was by no means terrible. I decided to try and add some spices for a little flavor. I added 1/2 a...

    Ideas wanted! Blueberries and Honey

I got my 5lbs of fresh blueberries at Costco. I put them in the equivalent of a paint strainer bag. I boiled my water an let it boule for 10 minutes or so. Turned the water off and then steeped the blueberries in the water.

    Re-racked

Thank you for the advice! Its a situation ill have to think about.... I will have a Carboy available but it's current occupant is still bubbling away. It should have slowed as of yesterday. I did jump the gun on my blueberry though. I'm new to the whole process of mead/beer making. I have been...

    Re-racked

I have another question. I have a 5 gallon batch of blueberry mead that is ready to re-rack. Is there a difference between racking it to another 5 gallon container or 5-1 gallon containers?

Thanks yooper. I checked it again today. It has cleared even more!

Show us your Mead in a photo!!!

I made this on the 13th. My OG was 1.103. I just tested it with my thief. it was 1.010. I am a complete and total noob to this stuff and have been reading others talking about adding stuff to affect FG. Are my measurements ok or do I need to do anything?

    Rumbullion?

I am wondering what classification rumbullion would fall under? I started a brown sugar/honey mix to try something new. I've heard molasses and water makes rumbullion and then is distilled into rum. I was wondering of brown sugar & honey would be considered a mead?

Thank you all for the help. Mead is very exciting! I just want to keep making it!

    Re-racked

I followed the direction in the recipe I found. Note: found it before I found this place. I fermented for 2 weeks. It had pretty much died down. I was thinking about putting a coffee filter around the end of my syphon and hold it on with a rubber banks?
