Bottom cropping wlp 300 with a harsh smell

Well it's a little late now so well see. It is just an extract batch with stuff I got for free. The starter tastes fine just oxidized and not at all hoppy obviously. It still has an odd smell I just think I stressed the yeast out way to much when I used it last fermentation.

Bottom cropping wlp 300 with a harsh smell

Well I'm probably just going to use it. I think the fusels stayed with the stored yeast because the starter tastes fine and only smells a little. I'll update in a month or so how it went.

Bottom cropping wlp 300 with a harsh smell

I am going to brew with some wlp 300 today. I made a starter from some harvested (bottom cropped yeast). The beer I harvested the yeast from was not fantastic. I think the fermentation got too hot and there were just to many fusel alc. It had a very sharp taste and a smell that burns the nose...

Are Trillium and Tree House really THAT good?

I was recently at trilliums new location and I was not super impressed with their beer. I have realized I really don't like neipas, but even their other beers weren't all that impressive. I had one of their sours and for the first sip or two it was fine, but the thing was like sucking on a...

    Breweries in LA and Boston

An update for anyone who cares about la. I only had time for 2 places. I went to monkish and was disappointed. There was just no bright flavor there. The beers in my opinion were kind of average. I did go to smog city and a few of their beers were absolutely out of this world. They had a peach...

    Breweries in LA and Boston

I have some business trips coming up and am looking for the best places to try beer, and the best beers to try at places. I will really only have time to go to 1 place in each city. At max I can hit two. I am thinking Monkish in LA or maybe Eagle Rock. In Boston I am thinking either Tree House...

    Water Profile help

Clearly I need to do a lot more research hahaha! For this weekend what do you think I should do? Is this a RDWHAHB kind of thing or should I brew another style till I can get a handle on my water. I don't really want to go to the trouble of building a water profile from scratch right now. Plus...

Will this water work for a Cream Ale

Trying to revive an old thread here but how'd it turn out. I have a similar water profile and want to do a cream ale. Curious if it tasted good

    Water Profile help

Thanks for the detailed reply!! Water is one of those things I need to get a book on and really tackle, but I don't want to invest a ton into an RO system and all the mineral additions which I know I will do once I understand all this! When you say boil the water is there any length of time...

    Water Profile help

I could use some help with my water profile for an upcoming brew. I am making almost an exact copy of Cream of Three Crops cream ale. I live in Macungie in the lehigh valley if anyone lives around here that knows the water and can weigh in that would be awesome. Anyway I am worried that our high...

Sweet Honey ale GoT inspired beer Help

I am trying to create a Braggot that will coincide with the game of thrones premiere or season. I want it to be a pretty sweet frothy and thick honey beer. I figured a braggot type beer would work well to get me the aroma I am looking for and I will likely have to back sweeten with honey before...

    Brown ale or Porter classification.

5 gallon batch. My measurements of the extra chocolate wasn't exact could have been up to 6. I also didn't quite hit my target volume. Got about 4.5 gallons instead of 5 because of a slightly longer boil and a slight limitation of my mash tun. PSU football took my attention away.

    Brown ale or Porter classification.

Great advice. I have a friend who is a real beer expert and when I give him stuff I brew I like to at least be sure of a category that the beer fits in (so I don't look like a total idiot). I got this one from Homebrew supply btw so whatever there version of the brew is. I remember that they are...

    Brown ale or Porter classification.

I'm having some trouble classifying my beer. It was a moose drool brown which is a reindeer slobber clone I believe but I decided I wanted a more chocolatey beer so I added about 2 oz of chocolate malt and some chocolate chips to the mash. Probably only about 10-20 chips. My question. This...

    DIY Stainless Steel Fermenters

The hole in the top is obviously fitted with a blow off and bung. The ring that is in the second picture is just 3/8" silicone tubing that is attached using aquarium silicone. I just used a bunch of binder clips to hold down the lid. This worked well. I think it still leaked a bit toward the end...
