American IPA The New West Coast IPA

You’re going to get sulfur with 34/70 regardless during fermentation. The warmer ferment will help it degass quicker for sure. You can certainly ferment it cold but you should drive the temp up at the end. If sulfur is making it in in the finished beer, you’re packaging it too soon and not...

This is a good chart to see some typical ppg of common grains https://stillntheclear.com/typical-ppg-chart/?srsltid=AfmBOorHU6ITxUmlEhwQXG_dxBhyp0cXcFB3Nypqf3Q5ULOzNOy2JeX1

    APAs and IPAs aroma disappearance

You’ve gotten some really good advice here so I won’t go into too much except for your steps 2 and 5. 2) liquid purge your keg and use fermentation gas to purge it. There will be plenty of co2 created during fermentation to push out all the sanitizer and still replace the volume of the keg a...

Irish red ale LHB all grain

21 will be a little darker than negra modelo. In my opinion you lose the actual red look at about 15.5-16 SRM. Here is an altbeir of mine that I target 16 SRM. Has mahogany tone and red highlights but darker than a “red” in my opinion

Higher mash temp, using grains with less PPG, adding grains with more unfermentables or adding unfermentables like maltodextrin or lactose

you should always give your yeast time to clean up even after hitting terminal gravity. They will convert byproducts like VDK and Acetaldehyde even if they can’t metabolize anymore sugars. I won’t start crashing for atleast 7-9 days

    Smoked hops

Sounds like a cool idea in theory but I think it would be far easier to just use some smoked malt for the smoke beers. I would think smoking them, even with a a cold smoke, would dry the cones out too much.

YCH Lupomax hop amount dose in Whirlpool in HAZY IPA

1oz of lupomax is equivalent to 1.7oz of t90. So say your original recipe called for 5 oz of t90, you could arguably get the same character from 2.95 oz of lupomax. That being said, I believe lupomax is an amplifier, not something you just substitute for t90. On our scales, hop loss isn’t that...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

1019 has always interested me. I don’t mind Sabro when used at a proper rate but I find hops that have Sabro as a parent tend to not have as much of that cedar wood/coconut note which IMO is better. I guess I’ll have to buy a lb and check it out. How was the galaxy? Were you brewing 2016 or...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I’ve seen that plenty of times. I was revering to the hops he’s planning to use. Idaho 7 had the most survivables out of the 3 of them

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Idaho7 has the most survivables so that a great option for wp if you like the character it gives. Using it with Nelson could cause the Idaho 7 to pull more of that herbal character out of the Nelson though. So just depends on what you want to achieve at the end

    Show Us Your Label

Fun label for my latest hoppy black lager. On big brew day our club brewed @BrewMan13 Schwartzbier recipe at The Warbler brewery in Delmar NY. I took 6 gallons home heated it back up to whirlpool temps, added rice solids and large Simcoe hop load, fermented it with 34/70 and dryhoped it heavy...

    Hop schedule for modern APA

I think your plan is sound, maybe slight adjustments but you’re there. If I were brewing a pale I’d target a .75-.8 BU/GU (closer to 1.0 if you’re going for a Sierra Nevada type). For hotside I’d target 20% of your planned ibus at 60minutes. Another 40-50% at 10 minutes. Then pick up the...

    Brewed my first lager

I think there are many ways to skin the head retention cat.. step mashing for wort composition, high foam positive protein grains, hopping rates, and a few others. There are many grains that work, I like using wheat a lot and I do use carapils with decent results. Spelt has been the best for...

American IPA The New West Coast IPA

1ml of quantum is equivalent to 1oz of t90. I’d say that’s about 1ml/gallon of beer for quantum for a normal dose (you already probably dryhoped heavy so this would be a boosting rate) So for 3 gallons I’d probably use 2.5-3 ml through the prv to avoid any oxidation
