Do u think stone is a top 5 brewery in the U.S.?

Actually, I'm personally not a huge fan of ruination. It tastes like a beer made just for the sake of making a hoppy beer. Just a big mess of different hop flavors. Stone IPA is delicious though and quite the opposite. It tastes like a symphony of hop notes.

You could add a partial mash or adjuncts such as sugar.

What do I calculate the boil-off from? Simple the pre-boil and after-boil sizes?

I think the variable that most complicates matters is not knowing how much water the mash will absorb. I imagine that's as significant as the actual boiling off of steam. This would probably vary with the types of malts/grains.

I'm losing my mind over this

Having played paintball for many years, I know from experience that there is definitely such a thing called a "dirty fill". Especially with co2. Sometimes dirt and sediment (even metal shaving), can sometimes get in the main tank. For many uses, the difference between a clean fill and a dirty...

    Various noob questions

So steeping is putting all your grains in water just below 170F for an hourish. Mashing is when you put your grains between 147-156F, which produces two key enzymes at different rates proportional to the mash temperature. Partial mashing involves flaked grains combined with base grain and...

    Various noob questions

What is the difference for steeping and mashing for you? They seem like they should be used interchangably.

    Various noob questions

Awesome. Thank you. As a final question, is leaving StarSan on your brewing equipment fine? My friends insist that it doesnt matter and that it wont hurt the beer at all, and I just read something on the forum which seemed to agree with that, however that seems wrong. Why wouldnt you want...

    Various noob questions

Hey all, I'm fairly new to brewing. I've brewed maybe 7 batches with the help of friends. Most of our beers come out pretty nice, but my friends are a little bit more optimistic about some of the others than me. I have a few questions about the process we're using, specifically about...

    German Pils Gruis Pils

I'm new to brewing, and have only helped with a few. I'd like to try this one out, but I have a few questions. Can you describe the flavor of this beer? When you say "1.5 oz Northern Brewer 60 mins", do you mean this is how long you let them boil? So it would be a total boil of about an...
