Stir in cold water to the wort during cool down. Good/Bad/Risky idea?

For sure, chilling is not that big of a deal with this size. I use large cold packs that come with meal kit delivery boxes. I have an endless supply as two of these come every week. Even so, shaving off time on brew day without risking badness is a good thing.

Stir in cold water to the wort during cool down. Good/Bad/Risky idea?

Probably nothing new under the sun here: What if I brew a small batch of beer, let's say one-gallon (because that's what I'm doing right now), and I make X amount under the 1g of wort and add some cold (sealed from a bottle) water during cool down to get up to 1g? We can assume that the...

Week Night Brew with BrewDemon Kit

I will be bottling it up in a day or two. If it comes out drinkable I will probably brew it again. So easy, affordable and a nice way to keep the carboys active. :)

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

Haha! It has some flaws, I can't deny that, but it has some good things to draw from. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone that hasn't brewed before. She cuts some corners that could lead to bottle bombs on some recipes. The book has 1 and 2 gallon recipes, the 2 gallon recipes aren't that...

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

Looks pretty good! Nice share. I put it on my Amazon shopping list. I have two beers fermenting, three kit beers waiting in the wings, and some more SMaSH beers in the planning stages. When things clear out a little bit I will grab the kindle version. Thanks! EDIT: Who am I kidding? I pulled...

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

Please let me continue to clarify. I'm having fun with my one-gallon brews. It was an easy step for me coming from brewing fruit & rice wines and meads in one-gallon carboys and jars. I have all the gear right out of the gate. I'm not interested in taking five-gallon recipes and doing the maths...

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

I like this book a lot so far. Spot on recommendation for this thread as well. The secondary recommendations are not necessary as previously suggested. Shout out to @aceluby!

I appreciate your honesty. Brew on good people!

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

@BrewnWKopperKat, please allow me to clarify. From the Amazon page for the book "mastering homebrew", I did a search on the string "one gallon" in the reviews in the hope that someone that reviewed the book may have commented on anything related to one gallon brewing. There were no results returned.

I didn't get any results on a search of "one gallon" on amazon.

I took your word for it and bought the kindle version sight unseen. Off to do some reading now. Cheers!

Week Night Brew with BrewDemon Kit

So far I've bottled some kit Caribou Slobber (NB), and kit Hefeweizen (Craft A Brew). These kit beers turned out nice and tasty. I also have a BIAB SMaSH (Munich Malt & Tettnang hops) in the fermenter, so too soon to tell if it was worth the extra effort and attention to details. Yesterday I...

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

I'm a one gallon beer brewer just getting started. I've been brewing fruit juice wines and meads for a few years now, also one gallon. There doesn't really seem to be a downside that I can pinpoint with one gallon brews. The brews are easy to move around and are pretty low effort. Keep things...

    First brew: NB Caribou Slobber

Cool beans! Thanks for the warm welcome. :)

    First brew: NB Caribou Slobber

I will probably brew from this kit again at some point. For all grain brews I'm going to stick with the small batch BIAB SMaSH track that I'm on right now: New member doing first BIAB SMaSH I like the simplicity and straight forward approach of this method.

    First brew: NB Caribou Slobber

I appreciate the comment and advice. Certainly good to know optimizations to aspire toward. I'm going to stick with the filtered tap water that I make coffee, tea & mead with and drink straight. If it's good for those things, it should be good for beer. I'm not going to futz around with water...

    First brew: NB Caribou Slobber

Thanks! You can toss out any comparisons from me, my beer palate is not that keen.

New member doing first BIAB SMaSH

I hope you are right! I will keep you posted. It's bubbling away right now and smelling really nice. The cool thing about beer is that I will find out soon enough -- and the cool thing about it being only a gallon is that it won't flood out the compost bin (worst case).

    First brew: NB Caribou Slobber

One gallon brews are the plan for now. I have some Hefeweizen (Craft A Brew extract kit) that I bottled yesterday, and an all grain BIAB SMaSH (New member doing first BIAB SMaSH) that I put in the fermenter yesterday as well.
