    Jumped on it. Nice callout!

    So who's brewing this weekend?

    I'm brewing a one gallon batch of APA loosely based on a Emma Christensen recipe and this conversation: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/threads/whats-the-worst-that-could-happen.725689/ 800g - Pale Ale Malt 3.5L 107g - Aromatic Munich Malt 20L 5g - Magnum 4g - Cascade 4g - Amarillo US-05

What's the worst that could happen?

Agreed, happy wife... I'm still tweaking things a little to learn what the various additions & subtractions provide -- sometimes changes occur by accident. I forgot to add the Irish moss on my last batch of American Brown Ale and it is looking pretty dang muddy. Sometimes changing one thing can...

What's the worst that could happen?

I appreciate the feedback and opinions. Emma Christensen's APA recipe is good enough not to muck with. There seems to be some issues with her amount of Crystal/Caramel and that's OK, but the beer is really good --my wife agrees. I will instead tinker with her SMaSH recipe, as I mentioned...

What's the worst that could happen?

I really appreciate you taking the time to offer your opinion on this topic. That's the kind of feedback I was hoping for. The original APA recipe is very good, I think a little better than SNPA (to my taste), but it is a bit darker. So why tinker with it? Because I can --and maybe I might learn...

What's the worst that could happen?

Yes, that's the grain bill for a one gallon APA from Emma Christensen's Brew Better Beer book. Is there value in knowing the hop additions, etc?

What's the worst that could happen?

    One gallon brew: Pale Ale Malt - 680g Crystal 20 - 227g

What's the worst that could happen?

I love it! LOL I will try it on a one gallon brew. All of the verses are safe. :)

What's the worst that could happen?

Everything else being equal, what's the worst that could happen if I substitute Aromatic Munich Malt 20L when Crystal Malt 20L is called for? I lose some sweetness but gain some maltiness? I think I might gain some ABV (although not really a goal) as well, right? The color should be roughly the...

What came in the mail for you today?

Major haul today: 10lb Pale Ale Malt 3.5L 10lb Aromatic Munich Malt 20L 1oz Czech Saaz 1 case of dry farmed wine (my wife orders it. I'm just the guy that schleps it into the house and helps drink it)

    What is your House beer?

Thanks to "Brew Better Beer" by Emma Christensen, I've been focusing on her American Pale Ale and American Brown Ale recipes. From my taste/point of view the former is a tastier less hoppy version of SNPA and the later is a smoother version of Moose Drool. I keep these two beers going in...

Are You Your Own Favorite Brewer?

It's starting to trend in that direction. I'm brewing some fairly simple APA and ABA beers that are dialed in to my own taste preferences.

    BIAB with tap water

The thread is about BIAB and brewing with tap water (or not), it then slipped into brewing beer that appeals to a panel of judges instead of your own tastes, preferences and joy of the hobby. My only nit here is that any input, expense or level of effort can be justified if the goal is to win a...

    BIAB with tap water

There is cork-sniffery in just about every human endeavor. We're brewing beer over here --not solving global climate change. This isn't important work we're doing. We are catching a drinkable buzz that hasn't always been legal, and will get you locked up (or worse) in many parts of the world. We...

    BIAB with tap water

I don't get the whole beer medal angle at all. Coors light, Budweiser and such win medals all the time. Pabst won a blue ribbon at least once.

    BIAB with tap water

This appears to be one of those "scorched earth" type of discussions that I see on just about every Internet message board. Ultimately nobody wins the argument. The camps are deeply entrenched, armed and ready. On guitar boards we have the tone wood topic, on the gardening forums we have organic...

    What are you drinking now?

One gallon all extract beer based on a recipe from Emma Christensen's "Brew Better Beer" book. Super easy brew day, and the beer came out very drinkable. Half pale DME and half amber DME. Cascade hops 4g-4g-4g: Bottle conditioned for a month.
