has anyone used pex instead of silicone

Has anyone used Pex in their system before. Everything i have read has been copper or silicone tubing. Pex is more widely available, is used frequently with hot water heating and is rated for high temps, so why doesn't anyone use it in their systems?

5 gal Water bottle as conical fermenter

First taste out of the Water bottle fermenters tasted great. There were no off flavors or plastic taste. I will be moving to larger batches soon so I probably wont use them again for awhile but would not feel bad about using them again. Another plus of the water bottles from Culligan were...

First All Grain attempt - Ginger Beer

Brews are in Secondary now. Irish Black tasted Awesome, Ginger ale tasted like ginger flavored water. Should I be worried about the flavor of the ginger ale or is it normal for this style to be weak?

5 gal Water bottle as conical fermenter

It is interesting how divided people are on using these. After researching it a little more I found a lot of people who love to use them and chemists that say they are safe. I also ran into an equal (but more passionate) number who would never use them and feel use of them could be adding...

First All Grain attempt - Ginger Beer

Thanks for the info and the recipe. The LHBS converted the dme to 50% wheat, 50% 2 row to help with stuck sparge. I will probably go with rice hulls on the next batch. Also, I purchased a BIAB bag, that I think I will drop in the mash tun. Hopefully it will make clean up a little easier...

First All Grain attempt - Ginger Beer

First AG attempt is going to be Captain Damage's Ginger Ale recipe . I had the LHBS convert the DME to AG for me. I have made a mash tun, now I am not sure about the mash temps and length of time. I plan on batch sparging. Any suggestions?

5 gal Water bottle as conical fermenter

I searched the forum and while I only read 3-4 threads it sounds like plastic is ok as long as it is BPA-free, food grade and sanitized. The bottles I have are BPA free so I think I will give it a try.

5 gal Water bottle as conical fermenter

They are the transparent blue 5 gallon water cooler bottles that you can find in just about every office. What would make a plastic jug unsafe for fermentation? Is there a plastic additive that I need to watch out for?

5 gal Water bottle as conical fermenter

Hello, Has anyone converted a 5 gallon water bottle to a conical fermenter? I like the idea of removing yeast through the bottom of the fermenter and I can get the bottles for free. I was thinking about using pvc glue to add a fitting at the opening and then adding a small bulkhead on the...
