    Yeast Starter question

Isn't it risky to have so much headspace though? How long could this starter be left for?

Help! Will my yeast be ok?

I have another AHS kit that I plan on using dry yeast in. I suppose I could take some of that wort and use it for a starter for the liquid yeast kit.

Help! Will my yeast be ok?

I took a closer look at the White Labs tube, and it appears to have a divider in the middle, which seems to divide the yeast and some kind of brownish liquid. The instructions don't really tell me what to do with this...is the liquid some kind of wort-like mixture that would help start the yeast?

Help! Will my yeast be ok?

Would it be ok to get my wort all ready to go and then use a small sample of it for a starter? Does it matter if the unpitched wort sits around in the fermentor for a couple of days? I'll keep an airlock on it, of course.

Help! Will my yeast be ok?

Ok, well it sounds like it should be alright. I'll definitely make a starter. I'm impressed that AHS has a login on here.

Help! Will my yeast be ok?

I bought a kit from Austin Homebrew Supply which included some white labs british ale yeast, but the delivery guy never left me a note and I just found it on my back porch. It had been sitting there for the past couple of days. It shipped with an ice pack, and thankfully we have had a cold...

    Wine with Mr Beer?

The Mr Beer keg has a spigot, so I was thinking I could just leave it for a couple of months and then bottle. Surely that would allow for most of the sediment to settle. I guess the only worry would be oxygen because the Mr Beer keg doesn't have a proper airlock.

    Wine with Mr Beer?

I still have a couple of Mr Beer containers that I haven't used since upgrading to full-size beer batches, and I was wondering if I could use them to start making some homemade wine on a small scale. Could I just fill them with grape juice, throw the wine yeast in, and let it be for a couple...

    Fermentation Temp

By the way, I have used Fermentis Safale 56 and the yeast packet that came with Cooper's Wheat Ale.

    Fermentation Temp

My brew closet in my basement has been getting up to 74 degrees, and I know that the fermentation of the yeast can bring that up another 10 degrees. Am I in trouble? Any advice?

    All taste the same..

Glad to hear that, as I had fun brewing my first batch (AHS) with steeping grains and hops, and I'm quite looking forward to doing some more from AHS. All my previous batches were extract only, but I didn't notice any twang. Perhaps there's something in BrooZer's water...

    Brewing Lager

I suppose I could keep the bottles outside if it's cold enough (which it probably will be).

    Brewing Lager

I have a packet of Fermentis lager yeast, and my basement stays in the 50s during the winter...will I be able to brew some lager? The only problem is that I don't have an extra fridge to keep it all in after bottling.

    St Peter's Old-Style Porter

Hmmm...looks like it might be similar to the AHS London Porter. Thanks for the input.

    St Peter's Old-Style Porter

I enjoyed this one recently and was wondering if any of the AHS extract kits would make a good clone. It doesn't have to taste exactly the same, but something fairly close would be good.

    Your favorite extract kits

Which extract kits are your favorites? I've only tried a few, but so far I like Cooper's Bitter the best (with 3lbs of light DME).

I got lazy...will my batch be ok?

I superheat my priming solution in the microwave. Surely that takes care of any nasties.

I got lazy...will my batch be ok?

Yeah, I don't think I'll brew without boiling after this. I don't want to have to worry, and I want everything mixed in properly. Fermentation on my batch is still steady. There is a bit of krausen, and bubbling continues. I'm curious to see if everything ferments out properly or not.

Doesn't this also reduce the taste of the hops? I suppose that can be fixed later though.
