    Strongest Apfelwein

15 pounds? Holey moley! Did you age any of it for an extended period? How drinkable did it get?
  2. R

    Strongest Apfelwein

Getting drunk is not necessarily my motivation here...I just wanted to hear if anyone had made the apfelwein at a strength closer to regular wine, and what their results were taste-wise after some aging.

    Strongest Apfelwein

How much extra sugar did you put in? Did you follow the recipe otherwise?

    Strongest Apfelwein

Ed's recipe uses a couple of pounds of corn sugar and I think they estimate it at about 8%. I'm not necessarily planning to deviate from that myself, but I was wondering if anyone else had, and what the results were - assuming they stuck to the original recipe aside from the added sugar. If...

    Strongest Apfelwein

No doubt some of you have tried adding extra corn sugar to make stronger apfelwein...how much did you add, and what was the result?

    Hangovers by Apfelwein

Has anyone here ever had mild heartburn from drinking young apfelwein? Does the acidity go down with aging?
  7. R

    Man, I love Apfelwein

I've just had some of my batch that is only a few weeks old. I like the taste, but the acidity gives me mild heartburn. Is this something that is rectified by aging?

I'm still deciding whether to go for .25L or .5L. The smaller glasses will need refilling more often, but that might help me moderate my intake...choices, choices... Did you see any plain (no motifs) apfelwein glasses when you were in Frankfurt?
  9. R

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Nice. That's one of the glasses available on the Possmann site. Looks like yours is the .25l? How is Possmann apfelwein?

    Man, I love Apfelwein

The site I linked to charges almost 50 bucks to ship the glasses from Germany to the U.S. For anyone who's interested in buying the traditional glasses but doesn't want to pay for the international shipping, I did some more research and there is a Possmann representative in Minnesota who has...

Hmmm...on second look it appears that the wikipedia one I posted has a motif on it too.

I was thinking more along the lines of a traditional glass: These seem to be impossible to buy on the web. Here are the only ones I could find, but they have a motif on the side. I'd prefer them to be plain. http://www.rmashop.de/eng-rmashop/eng-framesapfelweine.htm

    Man, I love Apfelwein

I just bottled my first batch this past weekend, and cracked open a chilled bottle last night. Mmmmm.....it's gonna be tough to keep from drinking the rest before it ages a bit. Better get the next batch started. Does anyone know where I can get some nice apfelwein glasses? Drinking it out...

Tree Top Apple Juice in Florida

Costco's Kirkland brand apple juice works great too.

How many gallons of EdWort's Apfelwein have been made?

Same here. Make that 6736 gallons.

    Wort Chiller Adapter

Bought that exact piece at Home Depot, it works great!

    Wort Chiller Adapter

I'm looking for something that will connect the wort chiller to my kitchen faucet. I'm just not sure if my local hardware store or Home Depot will be able to help me. Is this kind of thing difficult to find?

    Wort Chiller Adapter

I just bought wort chiller and didn't get the adapter because I figured it wouldn't fit on the tap in my sink anyway. Can anyone recommend a good place to get something to hook it up other than Home Depot or my local hardware store? Or are those my only options?

Sounds good...I'm getting big-time rhino farts coming from the fermentor, so that's a good sign.

Made my first batch yesterday...some of the yeast got stuck to my funnel, and pouring the rest of the apple juice down didn't wash it all off. I hope this won't cause a problem. The vast majority of the yeast got into the fermentor.
