    Christianity and home brewing

Didn't the pilgrims basically survive off hard cider? Wine and other such drinks, like you said, kept us humans alive when fresh water was sparse. I agree, I think there is a generational shift. Sent from my iPad using Home Brew

    6 months.....Need an IPa

Ever done an all Simcoe IPA? Mmmmm. Best IPA I ever had was an all simcoe IPA I made using a BBS recipe. “60-minute mash at 152°F: 3¾ gallons water, plus 5 gallons for sparging; 11.5 pounds Belgian Pilsner malt, 2.5 pounds Caravienne malt, 0.5 pound Biscuit malt, 0.5 pound Aromatic malt...

    Christianity and home brewing

Culture is an interesting thing to add. My dad says when he travels overseas for mission trips etc, and there are other traveling ministers, the non Americans usually order a beer or two with their meals. Sent from my iPad using Home Brew

    Christianity and home brewing

Lol. I thinks it's interesting that wine is seen as a more acceptable alcohol than beer. Hmmm. I've really enjoyed reading all these post. Sent from my iPad using Home Brew

    Christianity and home brewing

I hope it dosnt get locked down. My intention is not to create conflict. Someone was mentioning a pub group and theology. There is a town around me and a church meets at a pub and calls it, Theology On Tap. I think homebrewing "demystifies" beer and let's people look at it as a art and a labor...

    Christianity and home brewing

I was just reading a thread about homebrewing and alcoholism. Someone quoted the Bible and it got me thinking.... I'm a Christian. My father is a pastor. I'm very involved in church. I play drums, bass, etc for our church band. A year ago my dad asked me to try and get more men involved and...

    A homebrewer alcoholic?

Please excuse the quote: "'Everything is permissible for me'--but not everything is beneficial. 'Everything is permissible for me'--but I will not be mastered by anything." --Paul of Tarsus, 1 Cor 6:12 NIV, emphasis added. I think that sums it up well. I drink less now that I've become a...

Just Bottled First Batch (Overcarbonation Question)

I started with that kit a year ago. Love BBS. Whenever I see them brought up in a thread, I gravitate toward it! Anyway- I know they recommend two weeks for fermentation, but i think that's too soon. How long did you let it ferment? Sent from my iPad using Home Brew

    OG comming out low

Are you sparging? I've enjoyed beer too much while brewing and didn't sparge well and was down 1 or 2%. Beer tasted great, just a 6% rather than 8%. To make sure I hit the mark, I've added an extra pound of grain to play it safe. Sent from my iPad using Home Brew

    Critique/Advising please...

After rereading: if you can get em, I've found using leaf instead of pellets can help with clarity. You don't get that sludge. To play devils advocate, transferring to secondary is a very debated topic here. My opinion is if you use leaf, Irish moss, let it sit for at least a month, dry hop...

    Critique/Advising please...

That is a long time to dry hop. I usually drop hop 3 to 5 days before I bottle. Like he said, can be grassy. I've done wood chips with barley wine and ciders, but, both of those sit for months and months. Not sure how much flavor you'll get, so plz let us know! Sent from my iPad using...

Show us your Mead in a photo!!!

Sticks. I basically made Joam but with no fruit and an extra cin stick. One day I made Joam, a lemon Joam, and the cinnamon. The others were amazing and clear. Cinnamon taste fine, just cloudy. Sent from my iPad using Home Brew

    Joe's Ancient Orange Mead

I did a Joam back in April 1, 2013. Bottled in July. Opened on Thanksgiving. It was amazing!!! But I guess fermentation wasn't finished bc it was carbonated! Opened my last bottle of it on January 13 with some brew buddies. 15 min later, my wife called and told me her water broke! It must be...

    Everything Brooklyn Brewshop

Four does seem a lot. Zest of one is prob good enough. Let us know what you end up doing and how it taste! I made my wife a "bud lite lime" using BBS WGD LITE recipe. Used the zest of one lime at flame out for a two gallon recipe. Wish I would have used two, but, it was good. Anyone ever...

Brooklyn Brew Shop Everyday IPA Kit Tips

I've never had an issue with the three tbs, but that could be bc of residual honey on the spoon. I've done a few recipes with maple syrup and have pretty inconsistent results with that tho. Sent from my iPad using Home Brew
