    Orlando Beer

Hey Chris!! Nice to see someone else from CFL here. Believe it or not, I usually find a pretty good selection at my local Publix. I also have an ABC store right up the road that has pretty good stuff. I sypmathize with you though, I'm in Ocoee, so it's not worth driving to Heart's for a six...

A Little Inspiration for Those Having a Bad Brew Day

Well, that ceertainly made me fell better. Brewed today and the only beer I had in the fridge was a bunch of BMC my neighbor had brought over last night.:( I decided it was better to just not have one while I was brewing. Made things really tough sitting there with the wonderful smells coming...

What if I use apple juice for my wort?

Wheat beers are always good for those hot summer days. :tank:

    What's the difference ?!

My kit came the same way. But, since I got the deluxe kit from Brewer's Best that came with the carboy, it also came with an auto-siphon. So, the lack of a spigot is really no big deal on my primary. Honestly, to me a spigot on the fermenter is just another port for bacteria and wild yeast to...

    Yeast starter question

oops...should've checked the forum/wiki first!! Found my answer!! Sorry!

    Yeast starter question

Wow, I'm just full of questions today!! Anyway, sorry for all the n00b questions, just want to make sure I'm not ruining my beer... I'm getting ready to brew my 2nd batch this weekend and I'm using a yeast starter for the first time. I'm using one of those Wyeast starter packs. I followed the...

    Smelly primary-problem?

Thanks for the help guys!! I got some sanitizer soaking in it right now. I figure I'll let that go overnight and see what happens. If the smell doesn't dissipate from that, I'll try the bleach.

    Smelly primary-problem?

Well, I went into the closet today to begin getting everything for my brew session this weekend (2nd batch!!) and I think I have a little probelm. I noticed that my primary fermenter (A 6.5 gallon food grade plastic bucket) still smells like the last batch is still fermenting in it!:( I...

    Resisting Temptation

I'm also a 'beer or two a day' type. I have to get up for work about 3 am, so I rarely ever drink more than 2 a night during the week. On the weekends, I've been known to kick back more than my share. Honeslty, though, I don't drink to get drunk anymore. Don't like that feeling the next...

    Types of Bottles?

Same here...I'll use the hand held one until it breaks, right now I'd rather spend my dough other stuff. Even though in the end, it'd probably be worth investing in a bench capper, when it comes down to it, SWMBO only lets me spend so much a month on my beer, so I'd rather spend the money on...

    RDWHAHB!!! I trying

I had a batch where I was putting the airlock in the fementer lid and the grommet got knocked loose. Wouldn't you know the thing sank straight to the bottom. I tried to fish it out with the spoon to no avail. So, I scrubbed my arm like a surgeon and plunged it into the fermenter to retrieve...

Using Gelatin for fining in secondary?

I read in one of my (many) homebrew books that using unflavored gelatin in the secondary is a pretty good way to help clarify beers. I have a question about how to use it... My book says to stir a 1/2 tsp into a cup of cold water and let it sit for 30 minutes. It then says to slowly heat it to...

    Am I Being Paranoid?

I had the same issue with my last brew. I took a gravity reading and it was pretty near the FG, so I racked it into a secondary. I tasted the sample I used for the hydrometer reading and everything tasted as it should this early in the process. I'm just gonna let it mellow for a little bit and...

    Yeast Problems... wrong temp.

I'd give it at least 24 hours before you start worrying. If you pitched the dry yeast directly into the fermenter, it's probably gonna take a bit for the yeast to 'wake up' and start doing it's thing.

    homebrew web pages

Darn howlinowl...I may have to re-think my logo now. I was thinking of using a picture somewhat similar. At the 'suggestion' of SWMBO, I've re-christened my brewery "The Hideaway Bay Brewing Co." I'll have to post my logo as soon as I get it perfected.

    Fast and Furious

I think that was part of my problem....this was my first batch in a new house. I finally got a thermometer to monitor the temp around the area where my fermenter is. The closet I chose is holding at 77 degrees. I know it's only a couple degreees higher than the high limits I've read here...

    Fast and Furious

Just had someting similar happen with a steam beer using dry yeast....brewed it up Friday night, Saturday the airlock was bubbling away, Sunday the activity was next to nothing. My gravity readings tell me it is pretty much fermented out. My gut, and my friends here at HBT tell me everything is...

Fermetation question - Is this normal?

Thanks guys! :mug: Appreciate the info. Like I said, I transferred to a secondary (glass carboy). So, I guess since it's okay, I'll just have to learn some patience and let it settle out a little longer. I'll just start another batch to get my homebrew fix this weekend!!

    Using Hydrometer at different temps

I'm not sure what the formula is, I know it can be converted because I use Promash and it has a handy dandy conversion calculator for doing such a thing. You could probably find some type of online converter by doing a Google search.

Fermetation question - Is this normal?

First off, this is really more or less just for piece of mind, but... Friday night I brewed a California Common. Pitched the yeast (dry yeast starter) at about 9:30 pm and sealed the fermenter. Checked it on Sat. morning and the airlock was bubbling at a pretty good pace. Checked it again...
