    Microwave RIM system

At a party, how can you tell the difference between an introvert engineer, and an extrovert engineer? The extrovert engineer is looking down at the other peoples shoes...

    Microwave RIM system

Brewman, I appologize if I came off sounding confrontational. I certainly didn't mean to offend. It is an interesting idea, I wanted to highlight some things that some people may not be aware of. You ask if I'm a microwave expert, and I have to say, humbly, yes. I design high power components...

    Microwave RIM system

If you did want to stick with the microwave idea, you could use microwave safe plastic tubing (off hand I really can't think of what to suggest), drill a series of small holes through the door, where the holes in the mesh already exist. If you could find a good way to seal the tubing to the...

    Microwave RIM system

While we are throwing credentials out there, I as well am a electrical engineer, and have been working with microwave communication equipment for many years, and just recently took on a new role as radiation engineer to analysis circuits in a nuclear radiation environment. So ... there is a...

    Homebrew Supply Websites

Rodan is right, there really aren't very many homebrew shops in Canada that deal in stuff other than wine or beer kits. The three that I know of in Canada are: wineandbeerfactory.com/ www.paddockwood.com/ www.5gallons.com/ If anybody has other links for Canadian websites, please post them!

    Where can I buy LME?

Timmy, Here are some good suppliers in Canada. I'm trying to find some more though, but I've had good luck with these guys so far. wineandbeerfactory.com/ www.paddockwood.com/ www.5gallons.com/

    Online Supply of Homebrew Stuff?

There aren't any real LHBS around my place, so I order all my supplies online. And from my searching around online, I've only got a few choices in Canada namely: wineandbeerfactory.com/ www.paddockwood.com/ www.5gallons.com/ I would like to get a few other suppliers on my list for price...

    Umm...I might need HELP!

Yeast can survive the cold very well, they just can't tolerate heat. Even if on the odd chance the yeast are pooched, the batch will be fine, just repitch with new yeast (assuming you have some).

    Newbie problem

Hey Steve, I wouldn't worry about oxidation unless it is being poured into the secondary in a way that it is mixing with the air (getting agitated) as it would if you were dumping it in. If you are using a syphon hose, and placing the hose at the bottom of the secondary so that it doesn't...

Priming with LME or Corn Sugar ...

Has anyone ever had 'bad' LME, but which still gave you the right SG and FG? If this is the case, doing dantodds LME/Corn sugar test should tell. Tom

Priming with LME or Corn Sugar ...

orfy, I'm using a handcapper - the typical butterfly style. And as for the caps, it's nothing special, just the typical ones from the LHBS. I've used different types of bottles in the past, and they've all had pretty much the same carbonation level. So I can see it being the seal. Has anyone...

Priming with LME or Corn Sugar ...

Oh, and sorry, yes these are all 5 gallon batches.

Priming with LME or Corn Sugar ...

dantodd, I like the thought of splitting the batch in half and trying corn sugar vs LME. With respect to how long I let the beer carbonate in the bottles - I'll often still be enjoying a brew that I bottle 2 - 3 months prior. So I'm sure it's all fermented out. Also the beer isn't sweet too...

Priming with LME or Corn Sugar ...

I like to go the purist route when brewing my beer, so I tend to steer away from Corn Sugar ... though I'm not saying there is anything wrong with corn sugar ... I just prefer to avoid it. All of my beers tend to be on the under carbonated side, and with each brew I've been increasing the amount...

    Newbie problem

When measuring the SG, keep in mind that the heavy material (higher density) sinks to the bottom of the fermenter. You really need to agitate the wort, AFTER you've topped off the primary, and before you take the SG reading. If you don't agitate it, your water will mix with the denser wort...

    primary fermenter without airlock?

You definately need some sort of airlock, or some way of getting the CO2 out. I always use an airlock, and once it got completely clogged with gunk from the fermentation and blew the lock out ... including almost a gallon of brew all over the kitchen floor, walls, ceilling (wife was not...

To Chill or not to chill?

Thanks for the vote of confidence dantodd! And thanks for all the replies. I have been very careful about sanitization, and I'm sure that's the main reason for not having an infection. With respect to world class status of my beer ... heh heh heh ... no ... :D I've brewed many different types...

To Chill or not to chill?

I have been brewing for a few years now, and I have never once used a wort chiller. I dump my wort into the my brewbucket, and let it sit around a day, and then pitch. So now I'm thinking about trying a wort chiller, but I'm wondering aside from chilling the wort quicker, allowing me to pitch...
