    Hydrometer broke, need quick replacement!

After buy another hydrometer last week to replace the one I dropped, it made me wonder why those things have to be made out of glass. You would think some good plastic would work fine. Except then they'd sell a fraction of what they do now.

    blowoff tube on bucket?

If you can rig up your blowoff tube to have a tight fit in the bucket lid, then you can run the blowoff tube into a container with some water in it, and you won't need an airlock. Or am I missing something here?

    Boil time and hop flavor

Just out of curiosity, and so that this n00b can avoid the same mistake... if you don't mind saying, how did you wind up with too much wort? Maybe adding the hops at three different times during the boil would safeguard against this; if the last addition was at flameout maybe it would be more...

    Better Bottle Cleaning Issues

Not that we want to spend more money on a brush, but the sites I've seen that sell BB's also sell a red carboy brush, saying the red ones are softer and safe to use on the BB's. No experience, just saying what they said.

    I'm now a premium supporter

$20 is nothing for good information. If the good people here keep me/us from ruining just one batch it'll be the best $20 I ever spent.

    brewing in warmer weather

This thread reminded me of a question I had recently; If dry yeast is activated in ~90F water, what is the reason that the beer in the fermenter is supposed to stay cool, say ~68F? Is it so that the fermentation takes place more gradually, and the yeast live longer? Thanks.
